Christmas card cannon...

This is the card my Wife got me last year. What kind of gun is that?

Watch it now... My Wife's a blonde. ;)

Inside the card was $200 cash. She wrote that it was intended for me to buy "a cannon or bullets or something."

 Beat that  ;D

That Cannon is a Head Hunters "Head Eating" Cannon from Borneo! Thought that would be obvious from the photo! Either that or one of those Clown shooting Cannon, retired from Barnum and Baily a few years ago! Not to disparage either Head Hunters or Clowns, of course. BoomLover

It looks like they have moved it outside. When, I was there in '96 it was inside. Sorry about the photo. It was taken pre-digital. So, this is a photo of a photo since, I do not have a scanner.  :)

Actually it may still be inside, I found the photo on the web no telling when it was taken,
I also found several taken inside I just liked this one so I used it.

From what I read about it, sounds like it should have had a seamless steel sleeve epoxied in. ;D

This one's from the 1400's. What older cannons are still around?

here you got the 2 oldest swedish cannons ever found , the loshult cannon is estimated to 1320 - 1340 depending what source you read . many both national and international sources claim this cannon to be the oldest surviving cannon in the world . the earliest pictures of a cannon known today is from 1326 and show an almost identical cannon as this one .

the other picture is the morko cannon , estimated to 1350 - 1385 . but its more like a hakebus .

Actually that isn't true many guns from 1840's on used cast parts..... Ruger only improved on it with lost wax process.

But I see what I was thinking of wasn't lost on you  ;D

I remember when one or another Ruger pistol (think it was the MK-II) came out, one gun rag writer noted that if you get tired of shooting it, you can read it  ;D

yeah it seem that someone already makes a similar gonne , but what I can see from the photos it doest have the engraved writing on it . if I could find some kind of contact info I would contact him .

I just got a reply from the historical museum in stockholm and those pictures .

the weight is 945 gram

I havent got the exact words of the writing yet , but they claim that its a missunderstood or contaminated phrase from the ave maria pray , in german and latin . the writing is only at the upper 3 surfaces of the gonne .

I will try to have better photos and the exact writing .

maybe even ask them if I could borrow the original to produce an  identical copy ,
but that will probably be difficult . they will of course not let it leave the museum ,
but maybe if I do it in the museum .

...they claim that its a missunderstood or contaminated phrase from the ave maria pray...

 Ave Maria = Hail Mary.

Handgonne not likely to hit target = Long pass into end zone not likely to be received.

 It's all coming together...
