Ramshot Powders
« on: April 23, 2009, 06:36:03 AM »
Hello. I don't know if anyone else has been having a problem buying powder like I have, but I found a solution. I have a couple of Marlins XL7 rifles in .270 Winchester and the local stores have been, to put it kindly, raped and pillaged.... Trying to find powder in my town could lead one down the path to strong drink.. ;D Don't even get me started about LR primers.. Ugh!! But my problem has been resolved! At least on the powder end of things..I went to Graf and Sons and found they had Ramshot Hunter powder, IN STOCK!!... Whoo Hoo!!! I bought 4 pounds for about $102.00, hazmat fee included. Pays to buy in bulk. It came out to be cheaper than what I could purchase IMR powder for here in town. (If I could find IMR powder in town...) I like Ramshot powders. Hunter does really well for me in the .270 Winchester. Have not tried any of the others.. The load data on their website is skimpy at best but they are about to release new data any time now. I wrote to them and told them the caliber I used and they sent the new data to me in short order. Thought I'd pass this along in case there is anyone like myself finding it hard to find powder..  :)

I never heard of Ramshot and now I'm hearing about it everywhere.
 ???

I bought six pounds of hogdon powder last year and felt gluttonous.  Now I wanna go back and get all of it. I even bought H322 and didn't have the slightest idea what its for... ;D
Though taken from established manufacturers' sources and presumed to be safe please do not use any load that I have posted. Please reference Hogdon, Lyman, Speer and others as a source of data for your own use.

Troll, I too have purchased some Ramshot powder from Grafs and figured I saved a little money.  Clean burning and meters well since it is a spherical powder.  Yes, the load data on their website is kinda skimmpy.  But, I have emailed them a couple of times for load data on calibers they did not list and received an answer within a few days.

Ramshot by Western Powders is good stuff - http://www.ramshot.com/powders/. I use mostly Hodgdon powders but have recently used more Western Powders as they have been more available and I want to save my Hodgdon. Western Powder is the parent company for Accurate and Ramshot powders. They are located in Montana. Ramshot powders work but load information is a bit harder to come by in particular for non-mainstream calibers. Use the info on the Ramshot web site for specific loading info.

My dealer had a Ramshot powder book that is fairly comprehensive for the common calibers in pistol and rifle. If anyone is looking for a particular caliber PM me and I will scan and e-mail it to you. Charlie
