It's my understanding that when you use these services, the information you post becomes the property of the website owners and they can do what they want with it.IE: sell it to marketers, ins companies the govt., whatever. Thats why I have not and will never use them.

It's like any other web site, if you don't want everyone in the world to know about it, then don't post it.

Facebook, similar services, and your browsing history can be used during criminal investigations of you.

Information collection site for the government??? Unless you're the KKK, Black Panthers, Bloods, or Bin Laden - you have nothing to worry about. If your page is one of the mentioned, then yeah, the government might be taking a look at it.  ::)

Any website can be used against you. If you confessed to a crime here, on facebook, or on your own email, it makes no difference. You just say your were a liar and made it up and you're fine so long as there's no more evidence against you.

Facebook used to be a social networking site for college students only but has since branched out in the last few years to the general public.
It's the same thing as the popular myspace and similar to this new site called Twitter that's been in the news a lot as the next big thing.

It's a good way to keep in touch with people and find people you used to know.

;D MOST of us.  Some don't even need one to be elected president!

I refuse to use facebook.  Many of my friends are on it, but I just don't see the point.  If I wanted to talk to someone I haven't seen in 10 years, I would have kept talking to them.  Just because someone I talked to 10 years ago could find me on a website doesn't make them my friend.

there are plenty of people who feel that way.
some people happen to like talking to people and see how people have turned out, what their kids look like, or how people are doing it is very cool.   i have enjoyed meeting people from years past in the last few months since i have used it.    unless you are  stick in the mud, i highly recommend it.

BINGO!!!  Everyone is so darn paranoid about gov't having absolutley anything about them.  If they're that worried... Loose that SS card and any benefits later on. Heck there's always some hills in TN that could use a hermit.  ::)

I use Facebook and have found a bunch of old friends, been able to talk about old times and we're now planning a summer get-together.  I don't post up anything I wouldn't want good friends to know so I've got zero worry about the gov't or anyone else seeing what I type either.
Besides, on Facebook, unless you're a person's "friend" the info is FAR less obtainable than he free-for-all stuff posted on the huge array of internet firearms forums.   ;)

I use facebook.  For people that live in this day and age there are no secrets about anyone.  What you paid for your house is a public record.  For about $20 anyone can do a criminal background check on anyone.  As far as facebook being another means for "big brother" to look over your shoulder get over it.  If there was something they need to know about anyone, they already know it if they want to.

I recently got contacted by a great long lost friend just the other day.  We went different directions and I've always wondered how she was doing after we lost contact.  I've also seen facebook be a means to voice prayer concerns, share about kids, and just to see how friends are doing these days.  I've been able to talk with people from old army buddies to distant family members.  My generation isn't going to live and die in the same town we were born in and it's nice to be able to keep in touch with people.  I was surprised to see how much of a high school reunion it was, but then again I enjoyed high school and many others didn't.

I like facebook.

i really didnt like high school, or school, at all.  alot of these people i really didnt like one bit back then.  i sure have enjoyed meeting them (even the ones i didnt get along with back then).  everyone i have met via facebook, whether i like them or not back in the day, i really enjoyed meeting.  everyone has been great, and i have befriended every single one of them.
it helps you to realize that everyone was struggling back then to figure things out.   it is incredible to see how good everyone turned out.   i would but that site on par with g.b.o.; which is about as high of praise as i can give.
