Smelting Pot - Is Revere Copper Clad OK?

I have an 8 quart Revere stock pot. It is one of the pots made of stainless steel with a copper bottom. Will these pots hold up to smelting wheel weights into ingots over a turkey fryer?

I would recommend you go with your wife to yardsales and flea markets and find youself an old cast iron pot.  Even an old dutch oven would work well over the turkey fryer.  I've had poor results with steel pots for some reason, don't really know why.  Perhaps they don't hold heat well.

On the other hand, if its all 'ya got giver her a try.  No harm done other than you wouldn't want to cook beans in it anymore.............

I've seen the copper come off the bottom of those. There are better and much less expensive things you can use to hold molten lead.

I've used a dutch oven and large cast iron pot with excellent results.  I tried a heavy stainless pot several years ago and the bottom rounded and I had to keep fiddling with the flame to keep the temp up,  Cast iron retains heat and once it starts melting you can reduce the flame enough to keep it liquid.  With stainless you have to keep the heat fairly high.

cast iron pots are best thicker and ridgid . Has anyone else noticed when you remove the fire from a CI pot you can touch the bottom and it is cool ? the content is still hot boiling in fact  but the bottom where the fire was is cool . We cook stew every year and have to prove it to someone .
