Looking for a Stud
« on: April 26, 2009, 04:49:33 AM »
I looked on midway and a few other places
without any luck.
I would like to find a machine thread sling swivel stud
to replace the front screw on my forend to mount a Bipod.
Looks like I need about 3/8th" of thread and the hole is
counter sunk about 5/16" so the swivel would have to be
pretty long.
Anyone know of a source for such an animal?
Thanks
Mike

Have you tried your local gun store?

I just bought one for my TC Contender...same intention as yours to mount a bi-pod.  There were several packages of "studs" at the local gun shop, and this is in a town of less than 3000 people.  The one I purchased has a stud length of about .85 inches, so I will have to grind down to make it fit my contender.

Unfortunately I threw away the package it came in, so can't say for sure what the manufacturer is.  My guess is an Uncle Mikes.

Good luck in your search.

Uncle Mike's makes a kit that includes what you're looking for.  It also includes the rear grip bolt with the sling stud end.  I know Brownell's has it and I thought Midway did but not sure.  Walt  :D

Customer service on the TC website is  very helpful.

Thanks everyone.
I bit the bullet and drilled my purdy forend
and added a screw in swivel stud.
I decided that I wanted it forward more than
the forend mount screw would provide.
Plus I do not have to remove bipod to change barrels.

There are others that did the same, putting the stud further forward than the front screw.  Good stroke to be able to leave the bipod on when changing bbls.
