The .17s may be all the rage today, but it's the .22 Magnums and their heavier bullets that will bring home the bacon.

Nikon 2x7x32 works well, an if you need more help with older eyes....Nikon 3x9x40 will do. Just make sure to get a scope that gathers in all the light it can soak up. This would be good for dawn/dusk situations when the "Big Boy" just decides to step out into the open.
"Hunting and Fishing"....a deadly disease that I thank God they will never find a cure for..

Bushnell 1.75-4X32 Trophy series. The power of your scope is going to be somewhat dependant on the type of ground you hunt. As skinman said, a good light gathering scope is a must for deer hunting. JamesIII

I have a Leupold VX-1 2x7x33 on my 12 GA. USH.

For $75 less, I've been just as happy with the Nikon Prostaff 2x7x33 that sits atop my NEF Sidekick muzzleloader!

Thanks for the help guys
The way I take any scope with 4+ inches of eye relief will do.

Welcome to GBO.  Another one from IL?

I have a 20ga USH that I love.  After bedding the scope mount I "temporarily" mounted a cheap ($39 from CDNN) 3-9x50 Compact, Iluminated reticle, scope on it.  My Nikon Pro-Staff hadn't gotten here yet.  The scope is not the best and field of view is marginal, but it does a fair job gathering light.  But it has taken deer the last two years out to 110yds.  So I have been reluctant to change it.  (If it isn't broke, why fix it?)  I have been having a hard time finding Remington BuckHammers locally and I don't want to use up the couple of boxes I have sighting in the other scope.

I last summer bought a 12 gauge USH (SB2-980).  The scope I used was called the Nikon Slughunter, which has a BDC reticule.  The reticule has four lines, one being 50 yards, 100, 150, and 200.  Read the directions on how to site in.  It is a 250 dollar scope, but it is specifically designed for slug guns.  That is what I would get

Hope this helps
