Is this outrageous? Or normal?
« on: September 12, 2003, 06:59:59 PM »
A sporting goods shop with Encore pistol barrels in stock quoted me $279 for a 12-inch .480 Ruger and $272 for a 15-inch .243 but only $247 for a 15-inch .308. All are factory, blued, with iron sights.

I mean, why would there be $25 difference between a .308 and a .243? And aren't all these prices way, way too high?

Just wondering.

Do they supply vaseline with the bbl? :)

The blue 12"ers should be around 199.00 and stainless about 215.00 with the longer ones around 210.00 to 223.00.

These prices are way too high.  A factory barrel should not cost more that $225.00.  I would tell them so :noway:

There's a place here in Ft. Lauderdale that used to carry TC barrels (still have a few), but the guy told me that the TC factory is charging so much for their barrels now that people are either buying them off the net, from each other, or from custom makers where they can get a top-notch barrel for a few bucks more than the factory stuff.

I wonder if the TC aftermarket may be so strong that TC is deciding not to compete with it.  Let it flourish, let people continue to build their hot new custom wildcats on Contender and Encore frames.   TC will also flourish selling the frames, accessories, and a few basic barrels that seem like they're now being priced to actually push people to the aftermarket.

Don't konw if this is what is going on or not, but that seems to be the effect.  Was with me anyway.

:) hey do you get kissed when you buy one of those barrels. I would contact Ed @ Ed's Contenders that's where I buy all my barrels.  :D

:music: I emailed Ed's Contenders and got a reply yesterday. I am eagerly awaiting his price list via postal delivery.

I take it that most posters on this board have been happy with this supplier. I've seen some positive posts and zero negatives.

To be fair to the local shop I spoke about earlier, I've since been told that the prices they quoted were prior the application of a 15 percent discount. But even with the discount, Ed's prices are better. Of course, I haven't seen what S&H is going to amount to, yet.

UPS on a 24" 7M-08 was a little over $7.00 for me. . . insured.  I have never heard anything but positive remarks about Ed's dealings and prices. I bought local because I do all my business with a friend of mine.  But otherwise I would be looking real serious at doing business with Ed.

I've bought a barrel, a scope, a fore end, and some misc. parts from Ed's.

He's pleasant, polite, and the stuff is as advertised and is at my house three days later.

I'll continue to do business with him.

Ed usually just charges $7 shipping.  I ordered a barrel one time and he charge me the usual $7 and the tag from the postal service showed $7.52 when I got the package.  I ordered another barrel about a month later and he told me it would be $7 shipping.  I told him I would not pay $7, but I would pay $8.  Ed was speechless for a moment!  I told him to at least charge enough to pay the shipping since the price on the barrel was so cheap.  People treat me fair, I treat them fair.  Much better than these places that charge $13-$15 for shipping and paying less than half that to actually ship it.

By the way, if you could not tell Ed is great to deal with.
