44 Mag barrel on a Topper 88
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:53:11 AM »
Hello everyone, I have a H & R Topper 88 s/n AU606108 20GA that I would like to have a 44 mag barrel mounted. I did the Greybeard forum search and did not find anything. The NEF/H&R web site does not list a topper 88 in their list of optional barrels. I know through this forum that rifle calibers can not be used but I was hoping that maybe pistol calibers could be used on this shotgun reciever. This would be used for Louisiana Primitive Arms hunting by me, and by my wife during still hunting season. Of course a scope will be mounted as well.  Thanks in advance.

Welcome! ;) Read the info at the top of the accessory barrel list, it's also in the FAQs and Help sticky here along with built year info, your 88 was made in 1980 by the original H&R that went out of business in 1986.  I wouldn't recommend using a 44mag barrel on the older frame unless H&R offered it on that frame originally, they did offer it on the M155 Shikari, but I don't know about the M88, maybe someone else will know.

Additional barrels may be added to firearms of our manufacture since 1987 only, with a serial number that begins with N or H. We do not install additional barrels on any other manufacturer’s firearms.
