Finished Putting my T/C Contender Carbine in 375JDJ Together... :)

I have a new favorite rifle...  ;D

I just finished putting my 21" factory tapered barrel T/C Contender carbine rechambered to 375JDJ together...

I'm getting 2300fps average velocity with 260gr Nosler Accubonds.

Butt stock from Gun Stocks Inc

Fore end from Boyd Stocks

MGM scope base

Leupold quick detachable scope rings

Leupold Vari-X 111 2.5-8X36mm B&C reticule scope

Kick-Eez magnum recoil pad

I'm going after my spring grizzly with this rifle/cartridge/load combo this year.  8)

I just finished my pack gun also
I will post some pics of it also.

One question.
I was thinking about adding a sling to mine
and keep looking at the trigger guard and grip
thinking how they would dig into your back.
How is it on the back?

The rifle sits slightly side ways across my back so it normally does not dig in, it does now and then but I don't usually carry it slung across my back but have it slung on my shoulder.

I finally got out to the range to sight the scope in I was planning on sighting in a bit high @ 100 yards with the main reticule and that the first line down on the B&C reticule dead on @ 200 yards and the second line down dead on @ 300 yards with the 260gr Accubond's @ 2300fps.

Results... sighted in about 1" high at 100 yards the 200 yard target ended up with the first line down grouping 1" high and here is my final target @ 300 yards the bottom hole #1 I held 1/2 way between lines as per the diaghram and shot #2 is holding dead on @ 300 yards with the second B&C line down.

I have to say that I am constantly amazed at how accurate these little rifles are and I love it when a plan comes together.

Only 3 weeks and I will be grizzly hunting...  ;)



A fellow was commenting to me about aren't you nervous about hunting a grizzly with a single shot how would I ever get off a second shot quickly so just before I left the gun club yesterday I set up my video camera and filmed a video on how I shoot and reload Contenders quickly.

My second shot I kind of messed up you can seeing me laughing at myself...  ;D

Whoo Hoo I broke the 375JDJ in while I was on my grizzly hunt unfortunately I didn't get a chance on a grizzly but I did the next best thing, I spotted a 6' 2" fat as fat can be beautiful thick black haired black bear and was able to get within 100 yards of him.

I waited until he was standing broad side too me one shot with a 260gr Accubond @ 2300fps muzzle velocity dropped him instantly, after about 15 seconds he started to move a bit so I put another one into him which stopped him completely. 

To say that I am happy with this rifle/cartridge combo is an total understatement.

Way to go on the Black Bear!    A Grizz would have gone down just as hard with that set-up and you behind the trigger.

Yep, folks who have never owned AND hunted with a 375JDJ just don't have a clue what it is capable of with a well placed shot.   One is usually more than enough for just about anything.

Camp Cook, That's a nice rig you have there!

I'm still working on something similar.

A stainless g2 in .378 GNR.  It's a 22" tube with muzzle break.  Looking at getting a Brockmans pop up peep sight scope mount on it and a burris 2-7 timber line scope.

I'm excited about getting things all put together.  I originally started the project as a high country elk rifle; but since tood a job in MI :'( so it will have to draw first blood on whitetails this fall.

Thanks for posting about the 378GNR, I've been thinking about getting a 375 cal round that is in between the performance of my 375JDJ 260gr bullets = 2300fps and my Rem 700 LSS in 375 Rem Ultra Mag 300gr bullets = 2775fps.

A 28" barreled Encore should be the perfect platform.

Can the 378GNR be used on a Contender frame?

Anyone know about the 375GNR that is based on the 45-70 case they are far more readily available to me than a 405 Win case.

I used a 375 JDJ last season on a big South Arkansas Whitetail Doe (125 lbs)....I have shot deer with just about every cartridge imaginable... the 375 JDJ is incredible... I was in a tree stand and had to lean around the tree to get a shot at her quartering away...hit her perfectly beind the shoulder and came out the point on her chest....she kinda buckled and ran...watched her go end over end about 30 yards later.... I got down and walked to where I shot her....ghastly!!!! blood and lung tissue was actually blown 30 feet away.... a blodd trail a blind man could have followed.... I was hoping for a big hog later but that never materialized. The 375 JDJ is an incredible cartridge...I was using the Hornady 220 or 225 grain flat point. Congrats on the black bear...Robbie
