I am on the market for a nice rifle. I have a ton of points racked up at a big box store, and I was considering a Kimber 84 in either the Select Grade, or perhaps SuperAmerica. I'm leaning towards the .308. I know I love the looks, light weight, and workmanship on these rifles, but if anyone could share how theirs shoots, I'd apprecitate it! I know rifles have different personalities, but overall, how would you rate it?

KAYR1,

I am a fan of the Kimber 84M for two reasons.  First is that they are excellent rifles in the mode of the famous pre 64 M70 and the other is that due to age I need a lighter rifle and the 84M satisfies.

I started with a walnut stocked 84 and gave it to my son.   Now I hunt with one of three Montanas. 

Pick out the rifle at the store to get the best wood.   Don't just 'order' it.

My 308 shoots about MOA which is pretty good for such a light rifle.

Nice rifle - in a 308 it may give you mor recoil than you want if you are going to shoot it at the range alot. I would see no problems for a dedicated hunting rifle.

I have a Montana in .308. It shoots 150gr. Nosler BT's from Georgia Arms extremely well. With mine, I must let the barrel cool after about 3 shots. If not it starts to throw shots out of it's 100 yard MOA accuracy. Just let the barrel cool down when bench shooting and you won't be disappointed. I really love mine.

They don't kick bad at all.  Kimbers come with that excellent soft Decelerator pad and I have no problem with them.

We have the 84M in 7-08 and 308 and I also have an 8400 in 270 WSM.

Not a problem.

Thanks, guys! I am looking forward to shopping one. I am not at all bothered by .308 recoil. I shoot my Encore Pistol in .308 all day, and a really lightweight Savage in .300 WSM, as well as a .450 Marlin. I think the .308 might settle my retinas for a while.

MOA or so is fine for a rifle in that weight, and I will definitely cook up some handloads. I would have gone with a 7-08, but recently bought a Browning A Bolt in that caliber. anyway, Thanks for the repsonses. I will let you know when I finally get one.
