Mid Season and 1st Place
« on: April 28, 2009, 03:41:03 AM »
Well we are half way through baseball season.  The treasury has been nothing but a headache, but I do believe that the website Matt and I put up for the league has made a huge impact in a very positive way.  Anyway boring stuff aside my team is awesome.  We were a young team last year and placed 3rd out of 5.  This year my boys are a little older and man they can play.  We have tied once and lost once (by one point)!
This year has been good but not as entertaining as last year.  Last year Evan (5 years old) hit the ball right infront of home plate and then picked it up and threw it to first base to be the first kid ever to throw himself out.  A couple of games later Bradley (3 at the time) nailed the ball to the fence and ran all the way around the bases for a homerun.  Only he ran to third, second, first, and finally home.  The run didn't count, but I gave him the game ball anyway and celebrated his home run.
This year they are all about the game, and I miss the funny errors, but man it feels good to win.  A lot of the other coaches (all men) gave me such a hard time last year.  I had parents (men) that didn't want their kid playing for a woman.  I even had a kid from my team last year request to be moved to a new team.  Funny thing is this year he was stuck on the worst team in the league with the worst coach.  Guy just wants to look imporntant and don't give a crap about teaching the kids anything.  I feel sorry for the boy, but it serves his parents right.
Sorry guys I just had to let it all out.  Matt is sick of hearing about baseball, and I can't get it out of my head.  Thanks for letting me rant.  Go Harmon!

Good Job!! I'd have no problem with a woman coaching my kids. I can't see any reason why a qualified woman coach would be a negative.

DDelle,

I was also trying to be facetious too, but I forgot to put the little smiley faces in the post. Sorry If you took that wrong. My bad (as the youngster say today).

We won another one!  Of coarse I can't be too proud.  We won by default.  The other team didn't show.  Oh well we had a good practice anyway.

Heather
I always enjoy reading your post, thanks.
The best and most important years of my baseball life, they were also the years I learned and developed the most, were three years at a baseball camp.
The camp was Ozark Boys Camp, near Mt Ida, Arkansas
It was a Christian camp started by a couple of ex-major/minor league players from Houston.
The camp was in two sessions of 6 weeks each during the summer.
While we had fishing, float tripping (Washita river), basketball, swimming and other things, we played baseball every day for six weeks.
Each cabin had 8 campers and they were divided into age groups. There were three leagues, minor, little league and teen-age leagues and each cabin representaed a major league team---we even got authentic major league caps.
Every kid, no matter his skill level, played every game. The staff were the pitchers and umpires. They even threw curve balls in little league.
I always thought that would be the ideal set-up for community leagues.
When I went up one year as a Jr. Councelor, we got up a game at the end of the year when parents visited. We played the Counselors and Staff.
I got to bat against Allie Reynolds who had just retired from the yankees. He struck me out in three pitches---but that is another story.
Blessings

Very cool story William. I never went to boy's camp as a kid, but as a teen, a few friends and I tried to hang out at the local girl's camp. Well, until the counselors chased us off anyway. :D I did however attend two time, World Motocross Champion, Jeff Smith's, Motocross Racing School. ;)

This is the first year that my 4 year old girl is playing, I think I'm havin more fun than she is. Talk about a hoot to watch. Unfortunately the games have been cancelled for the next 2 weeks cause of the Swine Flu. :P :P
