At what point did it seem reasonable to fly a 747 at low altitude near Manhattan? There were probably people having heart attacks seeing that and remembering 9/11.

The white house said this was so photo's could be taken of Air Force 1 while near landmark buildings such as the Empire State Building. This is all a lie. It was a partial overcast day,  there were no helecopters to take photo's, no other planes. Only a air force fighter attack fighter jet. This is unreal, someone can take air force one and noone in the Secret Service knew about it??!!! Why would they just not use Photoshop?? You take a stock photo of Air Force One and place it anywhere on the planet you want without having to really put the plane there!

Seen a couple different reports on this. Cost factor for this was somewhere between $285,000 and $325,000. Just for a so called photo op? Even Cobert who is aleft leaning jokester on the comedy channel had to question this screwup.  gypsyman

Sans the racial slurs which really bring nothing to the table, after all, he the other half is white, I would have to say that the entire administration has the appearance of a "JOY RIDE".
I believe that few if any in the White House have a clue as to what they are doing, but are indeed "EN JOYING" THE RIDE. ;)
Just my opinion of course.

By actually paying attention to the news releases, one could also glean the information that the cameras in question were in the fighter escort. Helicopters would be hard pressed to keep up with a jet of any size. Still the crux of the incident is media induced, although gone awry.

It's a good thing that the non criminals in New York are disarmed, if he flew over a place with a bunch of good old boys they might take a few pot shots at it. I'd imagine the gang bangers aroung NYC were a big part of BO's support.

Sock monkey, now that is funny, I think someone needs to do a seperated at birth with BHO and a sock monkey.

I read the reports just like the rest of you did and in the after math, Obama is fuming about the incident of course.

My question is was Obama on that plane?...I figure that there is a 50\50 chance and if so, in his (obamas) own mind, he probably thought he would be greeted like Superman was in the movies.
It would have been interesting to see the articles if the public would have been thrilled at the sighting. A photo op? I dont think so.

Now the President can hardly do anything without the press knowing about it and there could have been a lot that was reveled when and where the plane landed but what if you control the press because they think you can do no wrong?...did they all have a meeting after hearing of the reaction? Whew, wees gonna halfta bees more careful boys!

TM7,
Each military service has a series of specialties collectively called "combat camera".  Almost all of those cool pictures that everyone likes to see of Airborne troops jumping, tanks and artillery scooting and shooting, ships sailing, planes flying etc. were shot by a "combat camera" service member.  These folks get their training at DINFOS at Fort Meade, Maryland.  This is the Defense Information School if I remember correctly.  I used to pass it daily on the way to work.  Kids all over base with their cameras and gear...
Anyway... the AF combat camera folks also get to fly in fighters to take pictures of other planes.  Seen beautiful pics of fighters/bombers way down below but still flying?  These folks took the pics?  If they were doing what they said they were doing, it wasn't with the "gunsight camera"...  it was the combat camera troops...  Alternatively, the WH has professional photographers on staff that record practically everything that happens in the daily life of the PRESUS.  It could also have been one of those guys shooting pics from another plane or helicopter in the area.

The F-16's were just there for cover.  Probably practicing their escort missions...

It was a bad choice of time/place/methods and incredible that they didn't tell the NYC government ahead of time.  I'll give you all of that...

Not everything in life has to be a conspiracy....

NGH

Of course, it was probably all instigated by that Jew Rahm Emmanuel as a ploy to scare the peace loving muslims in New York City.  I'm sure that AF1 flew a simulated bombing path over the biggest mosque in the city.  But Obama put Rahm up to it.  He wanted to make sure that it LOOKED like the White House was being tough on Muslims but he secretly backdoored the information to the American Muslim community.  He then bribed the AF officers in AF1 and the F16 with promises of status as honory muslims if they would go along with his plan.  Of course if this all wasn't taking up his mind and distracting him he would have been able to fart enough money to buy us out of our national debt.  During his lunch break he could have probably solved the budget crisis too AND gotten Chrysler solvent.

You know the media story about this incident is a crock.
I don't know what the real story is, none of us may never know.
Air Force One is supposed to be on the ground, unless the president is in the plane.  Reason - in case the president has to evacuate in case of national emergency.
When AF1 is in the air, it is to be accompanied by it's replica, an identical 747, and a C130 hercules gunship, which carries limo's, troops and such.
Whatever the real story is, it must be pretty bizarre, to go to such lengths to fabricate such goofy, and obvious, lies.

"Air Force One" (since I don't remember the tail number of the current planes) is NOT "supposed" to be on the ground.  There are many options for evacuation.  Not ALL of them involve a lumbering 747-200 series.  Any AIR FORCE aircraft may be called AIR FORCE ONE if the POTUS is on board.  Think about it... what would get going faster?  Pushing a 747 out of the hangar, fueling 10s of thousands of gallons, spinning up four engines and getting a big crew on board OR jumping into a waiting G5 that is ready to go with a crew of 3 or 4 and which doesn't need to be pushed out?

Air Force One is not always shadowed by its twin.  Yes, sometimes there are two in one place.  However, that aircraft, like all 747-200's needs maintenance.  Sometimes, one is down and the other takes it's place.  Sometimes the other way around.

The AC-130 could not on it's best day EVER shadow Air Force One... The cruising speeds of the two aircraft are so drastically different... Probably in the neighborhood of 300 knots or so.  Also range would play a big factor...  Ceiling is different too.  Besides, what good would an AC-130 do flying at 25,000 feet when the 747 is at 40,000.  Not to mention it has no air to air capability.  Lastly, the AC-130 does not carry cargo or any kind of assault troops.  It is a gunship.  It is quite full of lethal equipment but not troops, limos etc.

Air Force One, if shadowed is shadowed by a variety of fighters.  F-15's, F-16's, F-18's, maybe even the new F-22 and F-35 (when it's available).  Normally this is not done all the time in the CONUS.  They may orbit a location to provide CAP but generally that's only OCONUS and only after much negotiation with host nations MOD.  This will also involve AWACS planes, refueling planes and ground crews (depending on where they base and where they fly CAP).

I've seen and been involved with all of this stuff.  Sometimes, it's not a conspiracy.  Sometimes, people just make stupid decisions and send planes where they shouldn't be without proper coordination and planning.  I can't tell the times, that I have seen SENIOR military officers tell the White House Staff something only to have it ignored or countermanded by a 28 year old trust fund baby wannabe politician-in-training who is trying to prove that his is bigger...  It's quite frustrating and exasperating to witness an full Colonel get told to just "do it" because "I work directly for (insert name of any White Houe Chief of Staff)."  The Air Force probably didn't want to do the photo flight but were told by some snot nosed staffer to do so... I saw this a bunch with the Clinton administration in his first term.

Thanks,
NGH

Mr. Obama in my 59 years of living experience is the most TV'ed president in history. He loves to address the people almost on a daily basis. He will either endear himself to the point that he will continually give us "living instructions" on how to conduct ourselves on a daily basis, or he will burn us out on seeing him. I for one, am already "over-dosed and burnt out" on seeing him on TV.
This latest "plane incident" is yet another of the myriad of other "assumptions" on the administrations part to impress "the people". I am not impressed, but re-enforced to the fact, that he has not a clue of what he is doing, and will slip further and further into "obvious idiocy". JMOOC
He cannot seem to get out of the Northern Illinois "Chicago" mentality of Socialistic, Marxist, Fascism type thinking. i.e. We will save you all, whether you need saving or not.
Mr. Perry, the Governor of my home State of Texas, has been in the past a great disappointment, but is of late showing some backbone, and has even mentioned secession. Well, that is indeed the most refreshing idea I have heard as of late, and let the northern states and their wonderful, but unfortunate unions pick up their own mess. To secede from the Union at this date would be a remarkably intelligent decision, as it would alleviate us as Texans from this latest northern financial boondoggle.
I am with the late Sam Houston on this one all the way.
We as Texans have been accused of being "Ultra Conservative" on many occasions and have as of late been further accused of moving "FARTHER RIGHT". Well, RIGHT IS RIGHT, so let us continue to move RIGHT. The yesterday's defection of a Republican to the Democratic party is considered in my home state, not necessarily as a defection but, more of a cleansing, however I am in doubt the Republican party can be saved. I believe it is time to START OVER, with a new party if forced as a Texan to remain in the Union.
THE RATS HAVE GAINED CONTROL OF THE SHIP, STEM TO STERN, AND THE "PEOPLE" ARE JUMPING OVERBOARD. HOWEVER, AT LEAST IN TEXAS, WE FOR THE MOST PART ARE GOOD SWIMMERS. ;)

Dee, this Yankee is a good swimmer too, and will be stroking right along side of you.  I'm on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  We are always in a recession....good times or bad.  We are tired of paying the bill to keep Lansing, Detroit, Saginaw. Flint etc. floating.  We are physically attached to Wisconsin and there has always been talk of making us a part of that State.  I, for one, would leave the Union, declare war on the United States, surrender before anyone got killed, and collect foreign aid.

NGH>>>>From another website:

"Hello................perhaps it would help if someone were to ask the right questions...........such as:

Was the aircraft in question over New York Harbor on 27. April, 2009, Special Air Mission 28000?

If the aircraft over New York Harbor on 27, April, 2009 was not Special Air Mission (SAM) 27000, or 28000, why was it refered to as a back up to Air Force One (AFO).

Sending Special Air Mission 28000 to New York at 2000 feet requires shutting down LaGuardia, Newark and Teterboro airports while SAM 28000 is withing 25 Nautical miles of each airport. Insofar as EWR is the 3rd most busy airport in the United States, did anyone take into account the impact this would have?

The minimum legal altitude for fixed wing operations in the New York ATCZ (PC) is 1000 feet vertical altitude above the tallest obstruction (Empire State Building at ~1400 feet). Insofar at SAM 28000 was operating within the NYC ATCZ (PC) at 2000 feet, did they apply for, and were they granted a waver of the FAR? (keeping in mind that only qualified law enforcement Rotor Craft, Media Rotor Craft declaring 99.99, and Tactical Air Command flights squacking 0000 qualify for such an exemption).

Did SAM 28000 declare FAR 99.99?

Did SAM 28000 Declare VFR? (Keeping in mind that VFR operations are prohibited within the NYC PCZ).

The videos of SAM 28000's flight in the NYC PCZ clearly show no Fixed Wing or Rotor Craft Camera Platform accompanying its flight. Please explain how an F-16 was equipped to do a "Photo Shoot"? (keeping in mind that F-16s are only equipped with gun cameras and cannot shoot high quality video in any direction other than straight ahead).

Please state, when, ever, in that past, any Special Air Mission (SAM) aircraft were engaged in a low level photo shoot. (Keeping in mind that all such collaretal materials have been produced the past using a Matte Photo Process or a digital insertion process).

Please state who was in command of SAM 28000 during the events of 27, April, 2009. Colonel Mark Tillman, USAF, retired, has stated that such a flight is outside the operational parameters of the SAM 27000/ 28000 primary and secondary flight crew and would have been rejected out of hand by the currently assigned AFO PIC (who has operational control of both aircraft).

Was a NOTAM published for this flight? (Keeping in mind that hazarding air traffic in now an act of terrorism under the Patriot Act).

Insofar as NORAD (North American Areospace Defense Command) requires that all SAM Flights be under PC (Positive Control) at all times, and that all civilian air traffic be restricted from close proximity from all SAM's ( expect in cases of a validly declared FAR 99.99 exception), how was the SAM / NORAD required NOTAM communicated to the following:

New York Center (ATC NYC Long Island)
EWR Approack (Newark Airport Approach Control)
TEB Tower (Tereboro Tower)
LGA Approach and Departure Control
JFK Approach and Departure Control (Kennedy Airport, formerly known as Idlewilde Field)
The General Aviation Population (via standard NOTAM (Notice to Airmen (assuming women don't fly)))"

Now let's look at the definition of 'conspiracy':

1..An agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act.
2..A group of conspirators.
3..Law An agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime or accomplish a legal purpose through illegal action.
4..A joining or acting together, as if by sinister design: a conspiracy of wind and tide that devastated coastal areas

So, we see that a conspiracy is just a plan that is kept hidden or secretive, and likely for a possible sinister or dark plot.  Was this little  flyover kept secret and were authorities told to keep quiet on this whole deal..Yes! Could they have overlooked or just forgot about the psychological impact this would have on denizens of NYC?...Unlikely! Did the plot/plan require some alteration or usurpation of SOP?...Looks that way from above. Was there a coverup or has this been wiped off the media radar screen?...Yep!

So...at the very least we now have video and photos of WHAT LARGE AIRPLANES FLYING AROUND NYC LOOKS LIKE.... :o
And also guess somebody should step up an identify the F-16 variant seen with AF1...was it the C,D or F variant which is two seats, or a single seat variant..?

Reality and conspiracy and often mixed up, ON PURPOSE; and when it comes to the antics of the government we owe it ourselves to be a little doubtful of what really is going on.

I guess in your world, no one ever makes a mistake.  NO pilot anywhere has ever forgot to file a flight plan.  No air traffic control center has ever lost a notification.  And no one has ever done anything stupid or asinine.  If you only knew how TRULY and COMPLETELY screwed up most of government institutions are, you wouldn't have so much faith in conspiracies.  F-16's do have a two seat model as a trainer.  I haven't seen any close-up photos.  Just how in the world am I supposed to state all the crap that you want me to state?  Only the people involved can do that.  All I'm saying is that Caldera approved it, the Air Force flew it.  What was the big conspiracy?  To prove that a 747 can fly at 1500 ft?  Oh big conspiracy...  I'm sorry it scared New York, I really am.  I wish someone hadn't been a dumb-butt and approved a stupid mission.  I really do.

I just happen to know and understand how government agencies and units work when the WH calls.  SOP's get thrown out the window.  We just get the job done and we do it NOW and clean up the mess later if we have to.  Not a conspiracy at our level, just getting our job done.

I believe the crux of the matter here, doesn't really lay in SOP, or WH idiocy. The crux is, they did the fly by, which points to nothing more than an irrational, immoral, and condescending attitude toward the public at large.
It should at least be obvious to all here, that it WAS DONE, and the "D.C. ruling class" gives not a hang what "we the people" think about it. It is their opinion that we can do nothing about it, and I believe they are indeed right. We cannot stop fighting among ourselves about nits long enough to eradicate what is atracting the nits in the first place.
