How do you remove grips from a Texas Longhorn?
« on: April 29, 2009, 12:13:09 PM »
Does someone know how to remove the grips from a TLA flattop target?  since they are not held by the usual visible screws that most single actions have, I am not sure how they are held onto the grip frame.  I am tempted to remove the screw from the bottom of the grip frame but I would like to know what it does before I start disassembly.  I have not seen any specific disassembly instructions for this gun but I assume it is like most single actions except for the grips.  I would appreciate some thoughts from those of you that have disassembled one of Grover's guns.

One-piece grips are removed by removing the backstrap on the gun.  To accomplish this, you remove the screw on the bottom of the back strap, and the two screws on the back near the hammer.  The grips and back strap will all just slide off at that point.

Of course, if you were to sell the Flat Top Target to me (who doesn't own one yet), I would be happy to remove the grips for you.   ;D

Yeah but what impressed me most was how nice he was to offer to take that dang old piece of junk off his hands and even pay him for it so he could remove the grips himself. Sounds like a deal you'd even be willing to make.  ;D

Thanks Cubrock for the information.  I wanted to know what I was doing before messing with this wonderful gun.  As far as selling it, you would have to take it from my cold dead hands.
