No big deal, he has always been one anyway..
Interesting to note: Specter is a variant of Spectre which is defined as:

1) A ghost

2) An unpleasant or menacing vision in one's imagination.

Synonyms of Spectre are: Spook, wraith, phantom, apparition..seems fitting!

I love how the intelligencia gives the Spectical credit for being an independant, non-partisan thinker and Sphincter himself allows that he does what is best for his state. It's not even that complicated and I don't think there are many who are fooled by Benedict Arlen--he's looking out for himself, but I think this time he's stepped in it for the last time.

Specter has been in office a long time because he has always been there for the people and we know it, he's in my region and I've always voted for him and will continue no matter what party he's in because of what he has and will do for the people he serves.

he is just finally admitting to what any person with grey matter could see all along. He is a phony and is only announcing this to save his own political skin as he would not get reelected no matter how much he allegedly does for his constituents. Good riddance as far as I am concerned.

If that guy has shown anything, it is that he cant be counted on for anything except to say or do whatever it takes to get re-elected. He personifies what is wrong with washington today! And if you mean the pork he brings to Pennsylvannia, well maybe something will be done about that also! oldshooter, how would you know what good or bad specter is or does for the people in PA when your in TX ? like I stated earlier he's been in office a long time around here because of what he has and will do for the people he serves and when he is gone he will be greatly missed around here. he's helped many vets also and in my book that means alot. so go bash some ass that needs it if you gotta bash somebody or something.

rak55, unless I heard wrong, wasn't he losing badly in the polls to more conservative candidate that is trying to oust him? If all he did was switch party's to get re-elected, and not stand on his value's and voting record, sounds to me like it is time for him to retire. And now I heard that alot of the Dems arn't to happy with him, because he's allowed to keep his seniority. Sounds to me that he's got both sides mad at him. gypsyman

I may be in Texas Pard, Your buddy Arlen has switched parties, twice, voted with the lefties for the bailouts and the porkulus package, which your great grandchildren wont finish paying for, And now because he sees that people in your state dont like what he is doing is gonna change parties again! Don't have to be in Pennsylvania to see that something stinks there!

It does not matter what political affiliation he has, he is not ever what he appears to be! So I am glad he is at least going to the party that he supports. What will make me happy is if Mr Toomy cleans his clock for him in 2010, and "WE" all will be shed of him!

Toomey couldn't do it before because too many people know specter is for the people. it'll take alot of PA people to change my mind about specter not a bunch of out of staters stating what they feel about a man wrongly because they ain't happy with government.

I always said change for the better is good but change for the worse we can do without so be happy with what you have at times.

Gun Owners Of America rates him a big fad "D" That rating is just slightly better than most Dumbcrats get.

That is the problem with my old party (Republican) Too many Liberals or Moderates in control at the top level. Let them all go Democrat, and get some real conservatives back in control.

+1 Billy I am from Pa and I have never seen Specter do anything that was not self serving first. Problem is that most folks are thinking he is rubbing their back but in truth he is slipping their wallet out of their pocket. I have more respect for some one that stands their ground and not play switch hitter for self preservation. I dont like when people throw away their rights for a chance to hang on the government teat. Once that teat dries up the inmates will run the institution, scary thought. I am glad I leave in the woods and if need be I can fend for my family and not stand there with my rice bowl out.

If you can't be a team player, you shouldn't accept the help of a party. Sphincter isn't the only one in (was) the Republican Party who can't decide which team he belongs on. If you can't go along with the majority principles in a party, then run as an independent.

Sometimes I think we would be better off if political parties were outlawed, but in any case, alliances would be formed and we would have defacto parties, so we have to play the game with what obtains. As I said, if you can't support the party and you can't convince the other players to adopt your ideas, don't stab the team in the back.

Federal legislature members should not be elected due to what pork they can bring back to the district. I KNOW, that is how it has been for years and probably be continued until the US is bankrupt and then beyond when we are a third world country. Federal legislature is supposed to look at problems country wide and then make decisions for what they consider is best for the country as a whole. This bringing pork to the district, whether it is best for the country or not, is what I call PROSTITUTION, with them being the pimps and us the prostitute. The prostitution bill is paid with our money, not theirs; at least Gov Spizter (however his name is spelled, from NYS, at least, from what I understand, used his own credit card for his dalliances. We are being BRIBED with our own money and it is done by all in the US congress.

Anyone who voted for the bail outs (our tax money) is not worthy no matter what party (bail outs ddid not work just like we knew they wouldn't)...anyone who voted for that big legislation package full of pork and more gun control is not worthy for doing that.

Spector voted for both. Total failures using our money, the legislation was bogus to anyone who read it, no matter what party. If there is a group of people who supported these failures in his sector, I guess it's a good point he voted for them....but now maybe those people should look at the failures and rethink as well. If there are people who can overlook wasting our tax money because Spector does something "special" just for them...oh well....not much we can do about people like that anyways. Lots of people these days don't look at the whole picture, just vote for stuff for themselves. Far as I'm concerned, I'm not beholded to either party, they all voted the same in the years preceeding 2006, conservatives voted Republicans out for voting with the Dems on bad spending and overtaxation.....good for the conservatives, kudos for standing tall. Like to see the same thing from Democrats now...stand tall and vote their bums out.

Spector switched parties for his own gain......did it in 1965.....did it again now. Nothing to do with any high standards he has.....he voted to fluch my tax money down the drain, I was smarter than him, I knew ahead of time it was a waste of my money, I also read the legislation they passed, nobody in their right mindwould have voted for that. Some in Congress said they didn't read it....some are lying about knowing what was in it....either way, none of them would run any company or business that I own....they are not smart enough, or have no morals, pick your poison, either one is bad for our country.

You are absolutely correct you were in no way speaking of the posters.....that was obviously very pertinate to the issue. You have my apologies. I have no idea what I was thinking.

BTW the "puppy" thing an another thread I actually enjoyed. The serf thing just rubbed me the wrong way.

I do not work in goverment. I work for a electrical contractor as a project estimator/manager. I also just took a voluntary 20% cut in pay as did all of our office personnel and supervisors because of the economy and the nature of our business. The only other option was large scale layoffs of people with upwards of 20 years with the company. I do not like what is happening to this country and I look forward to hopefully making some changes in the next election. That being said I am not going to use this as an excuse to badmouth the country as a whole. In my humble opinion there is still much about this country to admire and love. Obviously that is not true for everybody.

Since you asked first what is it you do for a living or if you are retired before?
