Apparently the U. S. has launched a new boat christened USS Freedom. Designed to attack pirates? Funny though it looks more like a luxury cruise yacht than an armed intervention vessel.

Just finished reading about it. They should have kept the Patrol Gun Boats they built in late 60's early 70's. No the gov. gave them to the rag heads. they were 124 ft long 24 ft wide. Rapid fire 3"50 mount forward, single 40 mm mount aft, duel 50's each side and 4 m-60's on top of the bridge. 2 cummings 650 disels primary power and a westing house LM-1500 gas turbine for secondary power. 2 shafts with 2 screws on each shaft. Rumor they could hit 60 knts. Crew of 24 counting officers and enlisted. Like to see the bad guys get away from one of thoses. Could sink the bad guys before they knew you were there.

Saw it on tv. It's 300 ft long and has a top speed of 45 mph, has all kinds of weaponry. POWDERMAN.

TM7, They were 5/8" Alum. plate from the main deck down and fiberglass superstructer. The diesel stacks and turbine stack were also Alum.

now why didn t we keep those boats.. those days i guess they thought pirates were the subject of childrens books..
