Long Tom: Sorry to hear you live in Virginia. My wife's family all live there too. They are the most anti-gun, anti-hunting, let's go hike through the wood and watch the predators they won't hurt anyone, bunch of people I have ever met. And everyone I have met while visiting them are the same way. So with a large group of people like that don't expect anything like this gun law to pass there. Every time I visit I hear how they think Alaskans are ruining the environment, and slaughtering the wildlife. Those poor wolves we murder would not hurt a fly, they just want to live in peace and harmony with the rest of the wildlife.
This bill was introduced before the Alaskan legislature this term, but got stranded in committee, and did not make it to the floor before the 90 day session ended. One of our local legislators from Fairbanks is Shepparding this bill and trying to get it pushed through.
Many Fairbanks machine shops have expressed interest in manufacturing guns and accessories for instate use.
Many Alaskans say "Let them send troops, the Alaska Defense Force can turn the around at the Canadian border". The problem is the troops are already here. But Alaska is the only state I know of that has a Defense Force, that is not part of the National Guard, and can not be federalized. They fall under the governor, and are commanded only by the Pit Bull with lip stick, Sara Palin.
I for one would like to manufacture suppressors. I would love to have one on each of my Handis. I am currently using a suppressed .308, and subsonic loads, to shoot Beavers in the park near my house. It's great.
