English is the official language of India. They have about 7 different languages nationwide, so in order to graduate high school you must learn English. It is the official airline language, the official scientific language, the official business language, and the official internet language of the entire world. Why, because between the Americans and Britts, most commerce, inventions, etc were made by them. Our own country doesn't have an "official" language, thus the confusion with Spanish, etc. It should be required with immigration. There are only two major types of English, Brittish and North American (includes Canada). There are dialects such as Southern, Austrailian, etc. It is also the official language of the former Brittish colonies. 800,000,000 people are supposed to be able to speak English. Europeans learn it to graduate high school also. Chinese has over 1 billion, however, it is confined to China only and they have been trying to adapt a western styled alphabet so foreigners can learn their language easier. Spanish is the third most widespread language.
