Oh Lordy! He's back again.
« on: May 08, 2009, 05:19:14 AM »

Sigh! The old corn-ball is back.

Hi fellas and ladies too.  I just came back on line yesterday with a repaired computer that crashed the first week in February. I have to play catch-up as well as I can while I repair myself too. What I thought was an injured back from working my cannon all last year, WASN'T!

A side effect of a Rx I was on maintainance with, was busy eroding the protective covering on my nerves and the sciatic being the largest, finally left me unable the walk, stand or sit. So why fix the computer? I can't work it while on my back; right?

The computer is fixed and I am mending too. I have over a quarter ton of iron and steel in the garage since last year, just waiting to be turned into a toy that you will drool over. I hope to be able to begin by summer.

So let's get on with the show. I have 15 weeks of posts to read.

Sir Richard,
I aimed another post directly at you but you probably haven't read 'em all (welcome back btw.)  Given yr past association with Watervliet Arsenal I thought you might be helpful here.  I need to know what year approx. the Arsenal received the two Verbruggen 3-pounders that were formerly on display at the Morris-Jamel Mansion in NYC.  The people (person really) at the museum did not know when I asked about a year back.  Thanks!

Richard the Returned,   Mike and I are glad to see that you are back!  Thanks again for taking the time to look for that elusive 4.5" Seige Rifle across the Hudson in Rhinebeck.  Looking forward to your interesting posts!

Richard, glad to see that your back and on the mend.

Cannonman, were those the two brass cannons mounted on concrete pedastalls in from on the mansion located on jamaica avenue in Queens. Used to see them many moons ago when my folks to me to the park. If they are, I'm glad as it would be only a matter of time before they grew legs and walked. Frank

No these were mounted close to if not on the mansion on the highest point in Manhattan.  Give me the exact address of the two in Queens please, I may be in that area very soon.

Cannonman, Richard has the address. They were/are mounted on two concrete pedastals in front of the mansion. Brass/bronze barrels and about 3" bore. Like Richard said I haven't been there in quite a few years so don't know if they are still there. Moved to Louisiana in '96 hope that they are still there. Frank

Cannonman, googled a few site about the king mansion. none of them mentioned the cannons. However you could call the
Historical House Trust at 1-212-360-8252 and inquire there. In the pics they showed bushes in front of the mansion and they were taken at an angle not head on. There is an old church in the area that dates to about the revolutionary war time and many of the headstones still have legible dates back to the 1780's. In any event if you do go and the cannons are still there, please would you post some pics. I think Richard and I would very much like a trip down memory lane. i used to live on 179th street between Hillside ave and 90th ave. Many, many moons ago. Thanks, Frank
