Well, I see they've done it; a Blackhawk .44 special.  Darn, I wish they would put that on the 'New Vaquero' frame.  I already have a heavy frame gun in .44 special.  44 Man

  Actually, look and you'll see this Lipsey's exclusive .44 special IS made on the medium sized frame.  It uses the same frame as he 50th Ann BH, the New Model Flattop one.  Aside from the topstrap, it's he same frame as the New Vaqueros.

You've got to get one. Mine is a 4 5/8" barrel. It has a nice action, handles great and boy does it shoot.

Mine is a 5.5 inch barrel. Shoots great, but the grip frame is kinda smallish for my hands. May try to locate a different pair of grips to improve that feel.

had my ffl person call, they are out and ruger is only shipping quarterly. will be about july. cost about the same as the flat $400.

Mine has a 4 5/8" bbl. I just sent it off for a action job. I have have a set of Ambonya Burl grips from clc custom grips coming, and a Tom Threeperson's holster with hammer thong and extra fancy floral carving from El Paso Saddlery. Can't wait to get em all together. :)

Yeah, I like them. I have one for a Ruger Bisley and one for a S&W Model 28.

I just ordered one wih a 5 1/2" barrel. They're only producing 1000 of each, so if you want one, go to Lipsey's website and find a dealer. Soon. They rolled all the Ruger warnings over to the bottom of the barrel, so they have a very clean look to them. Plus, Ruger's quality standards have improved quite a bit and every post I've read from someone who has one all say they shoot great.

I was excited about the black grips but they're nothing like the old ones and have been stowed in the original box as a surprise for the lucky dog that snags it at my estate sale.  The steel grip frame is narrower than the aluminum as well, so these feel especially small.  I put a set of CLCs in California Olivewood on mine.  Cary knows the frames, knows the grips and does a very nice job.  I tried the Ruger "Rosewood" grips from their site and sent hem back.  The were a terrible fit and just as skinny as the plastic.  The Lipsey's .44 Special Blackhawk is not your average "factory Ruger."  They paid close attention to all the important stuff picky shooters tweak - to include the throats.  Had a mile of creep (fixed that) and the drag mark on the cylinder is awful but everything else is just plain sweet.  OK, the hammer could be lower but I think I have short thumbs.  I love the indexing pawl feature.  This is only the fourth NM Ruger I have ever owned - had a couple Bisley SBHs and a Bisley .44 mag Vaquero, all of which shot quite well and were very nicely finished, but I never cared for the switch-off between OM and NM when loading so I stayed away from  the NMs.  THIS was the one that made me decide to suck it up and get used to loading a NM.

If you're a 'Special fan, you really ought to try one.  If you decide you don't like it, you shouldn't have any trouble moving it.  Every load I have tried in it shoots tight groups, from the LEE 208 WC to the 432265 RDO.  I have a preference for heavier slugs but the 215 Magma SWC is a natural in this one.  I have used three different 250 SWCs in it too and nothing I have tried even comes close to shooting poorly.
