I don't care for them myself, but my Dad loves morels. anyone hunting them yet? also, how far north do they grow?

They grow in Alaska. After the lightening tonight they should be popping like crazy, but I found 20 or so Sunday in Waukesha county.

I love 'em. I looked for almost an hour today in proven spots of other years, and found none.

This tells me the obvious - I'm early, I'm late, or they just aint gonna happen  ;D

we have a smattering of morels here in northwest Illinois, not much. I talked to a guy while fishing that lived in central Wisconsin and hunts them pretty regularly. Apparently they grow pretty well there.

We have a mushroom here called hen of the woods, when they're coming up you can get garbage bags full of them. Sliced up and fried in butter is my favorite.

Look for dead elms, rain followed by some warmer weather.  Its been in the 50s and 60s here and they haven't come up yet.  It rained last night and we'll have some more rain and warmer weather this week.  I'll be out mid-week to check and again on the weekend.

Your hen of the woods mushrooms you mention are really good! Have found only a few around here and they were huge, growing mainly on side of oak trees if I remember right.
