But you knew that.

The also built the Da Vinci tank.

The Tank build had an interesting build of a breech loading gun. It hadremovable chambers wedge in place.

That's one I actually saw! (I was in Raleigh, NC on business and the TV in the motel had it on.)

It did look like they had at least one level headed resource that knew something about cannons. Although I wonder if what they built would stand up over time (no details on powder chamber or charges were given).

I have one like that with four rows of barrels superposed, 32 in all, .31 caliber. Is in an inconvenient location or I'd post pic right now, maybe later today. Not too old, but it works.

Same day the pic was taken with the M60, I lit off a 100 round belt from a 1919A6 holding it the same way. Not very accurate, but with 100 rounds, who needs accuracy?

Depends how many enemy are charging. If there are many more than a platoon, 100 rounds doesn't allow for many misses.

BTW: I saw part of the show on The Discovery Channel. Came in late so I didn't get many of the construction details, but the barrels looked to be about 12-pounder bore diameter.

Thirty-three guns, that's more firepower than some warships carried. This was one big, serious machine!

I think I giggled out loud a little when they set off an entire bank of eleven guns.

Time for CANISTER!

Speaking of canister, I wonder why a 33 barrel volley gun would be considered superior to one round of canister from a cannon. Surely a second round could be loaded and fired before the 33 barrel gun could be reloaded (and that is not even counting double canister.)

Battles are over in a few minutes.
Concentrations of people are prime targets.
And, I would assume, that the round ball would have greater range than canister; but all 11 barrels could be loaded with canister or a combination.

As there were no dimensions on the original drawing, I'll -- ASSUME -- that they could be loaded with 'whatever'.

The rotating triangular multi barrel gun was a 6PDR. The tank gun was smaller 2 pdr.

Be a heck of a thing for trying to take down a wall or gate. I would think that for use against troops you would want a slight spread.

According to the Discovery Channel website the show is on 10 PM E/P Mondays. So if you watch Discovery Channel you will find the show repeated a dozen times all week. I like watching these shows. No some much for the main theme, but if you watch you can pick up some neat building tricks.

Another show that I started watching when I was in South Africa for these tips is American choppers. I don't watching waterjets work or the Tuetels tantrums. But when Paul Sr picks up the torch and starts woking metal the old way it is very interesting. I love to watch him work with the layout table and chalk, fascinating. The rest of the drama I can do with out.

Here's my FCMG. When the trays are all loaded and quickmatch installed in the vertical troughs, it fires so it almost sounds like one bang, but not quite. All the barrels fire in something less than one second, but I never timed it precisely, nor videotaped it. I've always thought about cleaning up the welds so it looked better, which is easy to do, but I never got around to it. As you can see it isn't too big, but it must weigh 75 lbs., there's a lot of steel in it. Elevation is adjustable, see the perforated arc with the long retaining pin underneath.

No, I seldom watch any TV. I don't even have a digital compatible set now. Anyway, I thought we were talking about the Da Vinci-style gun at the top of the thread.

The gun they built was like the one pictured in the first post, built on a massive scale.

33 barrels in three banks of 11. The individual barrels were each very large guns in and of themselves.

The completed machine required considerable effort by the entire team to move.

Some day when you've got the time to load this "organ gun" up, and film it going off (with special emphasis on a good slo-mo shot), it would be very interesting to see the firing itself, and what the shot would do to a target.

It might be more interesting to watch going off using black match rather than quick. That way there would be more of a delay between shots.

Are the bores large enough to stuff firecrackers into?

Or maybe little rockets?

So it wasn't tested in the field on dirt or in mud. It would likely be too unwieldy for actual combat use except maybe for defense of a fixed installation.
