.223 remington
« on: May 09, 2009, 09:43:58 AM »
Does anyone know wether or not the swift 75 gr. scirocco can be loaded to mag. lenght ( 2.25 - 2.26 ). I can't seem to find any load info on this round.
Also would like to know which hornady 75 gr. hp black hills is loading, my ar shoots this round pretty good but it's getting expensive and hard to find.
Any info would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

You should be able to check on their site to see which bullet it is. I think Hornady but haven't double checked. They are the only one I can think of off the top of my head who makes a 75 grain Match HP bullet for them to load.

Thanks Graybeard, I checked ther site and couldn't find much info. Did some re search though and found the only 75 gr. hpbt Hornady has that can be loaded to mag. lenght. Placed the order and hopefully will arive soon. Cant wait to start playing with a load.

Finaly had a chance to load my first rounds ever today. Used the hornady 75 gr. mhpbt and 23 gr's of varget. trimmed cases to 1.752, oal 2.25. Headed to the range and am pleased. A 3 shot group under 1/2 and a 2 shot group at .378 at 50 yds. through a ar with open sights. No signs of excessive pressure. Sorry I don't have a chrony, but may be able to borrow one. Realy need to scope the gun. I'd like to increase the charge in hopes of better accuracy but it probably shoots better than my old eyes can now. What height rings would I need for a flat top ar?

I cant answer the question on that particualar bullet but most in that weight range are marginal. Another thing is your going to want a faster twist to stablilize it. Probably at least a 1in8 and better yet a 1in7. In my 1in9 guns i quit at about 65 grain.

Thanks all. My ar has a 1in7 twist barrel and I want to shoot the heavier bullets. I think they'll buck the wind better at long ranges and still destroy varmits at closer ranges. I want one load that will work for all my intended purposes. Bought a box of the swift scirocc II on the cheap, Guy sold his gun and forgot he had em. There 75 grainers just like the hornady mhpbt I've loaded but the bullet dimensions are different and I havn't seen any load data. Newbie to reloading so I'm a little apprehensive. Are my concerns justified or can I use load data for any 75 gr. jacketed bullet. I don't plan to use max loads, but may have to or get close to max to get the accuracy.
Thansk in advance for any help!
