here piggie piggie

got one!
not a big one, but the biggest of the bunch
got the place late Friday afternoon and headed out to the blind about 7:30 and we saw a group of hogs feeding in tall grass about 75 yards out, wind in our face

tried to sneak in a little close, got about 10 yards and was lining up on one and cocked the hammer, there were some tiny ones even closer to us we didn't see and heard a snort and then they started running

pulled the trigger, aiming for the neck and hit it, came out through the brush about 50 yards and I let her have another one through the shoulder

first blood with my new 44 and some 255g Keith style hardcasts over 23g of IMR 4227
clean punch through on both shots, first shot hit the throat and second was through both front shoulders and it ran about 10 ft

it's on ice and will get smoked soon

hunted more but saw none

Congrats!!! Those SWC's did fine, indeed. Thats  about the size of hog that is best on the table, so enjoy good eating! Smoked is a good decision. Can we get more terminal ballistic info? Pass-thrus, wound damage, any observed characteristics of the bullet track?

When I lived in Louisiana, my hunting buddies used to kid me about shooting the babies.  After cleaning a large boar in Fl. as a teen, I usually aim for the medium size pigs, much easier to clean and no way near as gamey, in fact the young ones can't be told from the store bought variety.  I used a 357mag with 160gr hard cast and also got complete pass throughs on med pigs at 50 to 70yds. and very short runs, if any.  Great shooting and enjoy the organically grown pork.

not really much to say about terminal ballistics.. both shots were clean pass throughs, breaking the far side leg
honestly didn't do much research, strung it up got it on ice fast and on to the ribs on the pit and beer :)

I did have my 6.8 SPC AR with me and it took a few seconds to decide which to use... the AR I could have probably gotten a few more and had permission to kill as many as I wanted.. but the new gun needed proper testing :)

I will say "I LOVE IT" when asked about the pistol though!

Man thats the truth...where I hunt it is 100 a day for all you can shoot, he told me bring your rifle and pop them from the rim rock above the canyon...for some fun..pop one and wait a little while and others will come to eat that one...pop them all. he told me to kill as many as I could and leave em lay if I didn't want to eat them...I can't do that though...I was raised to only kill what you can eat and leave the rest for someone else.  After typing that.....perhaps he should be paying ME to kill them for him....hmmmmm

bihof,
What part of Louisiana did you live?
Did you ever have the chance to hunt the" Pinehill Rooter`s"? Very interesting little pigs!
They are of Spanish origin. Some people hunt them with a team of dogs, chase dog with a catch dog and a hold dog. Lot of these pigs use to be around Larto Lake.
