I cant decide on matte or gloss for an encore walnut/blued barrell.  Ive seen the gloss but the store doesnt have one in matte to compare it too. Tell me what you have on your encore.

matte or gloss ??

not sure if i really understand the question :?  i thought that factory barrels only come in gloss BLUE, or matte STAINLESS finish.  if you're talking about matte, or gloss scopes, i have both types. the gloss finish scopes are much prettier, but the matte finish may be a little more game friendly. then again i've never had a problem spooking game with a pretty gun.

KYODE,

My factory 15inch blue barrel is more matte than polished finish, in other words it looks like it was bead blasted with a fine medium before blueing.

Sorry about that, I meant gloss or matte scope.  Im thinking I like gloss scope but the receiver kinda has the matte look.

For a hunting gun I try to never have any component on it gloss finish. Way to much reflection to suit me. I try to make everything matte finish when I can.

Matte is made to counter reflection. If you are going to hunt with it matte is the logical choice and loos fine on any barrel.

I can't say that I ever noticed a difference while hunting, but then I have only used matte scopes for the last 15 years   .  I wish they did not charge 10.00 more for them though.
