Best thing since sliced bread!!!!!!!!!!
« on: May 11, 2009, 01:48:47 PM »
I did a trade today and got a brand new Garmin Nuvi 205 series GPS. This is my first one and think this thing will be great in my line of work. I work all over the place and get lost on the regular basis. Not to mention all the gas I waste while being lost. Do any of you have this GPS and if so how do you like it? Dale

Dale congratulations!

I like your comparison to bread.  Your unit is like a loaf of bread.  In many cases the different slices contain a hidden menu.  Touch the box across the top and it shows you your next three turns.  A touch of the lower right box gives you a larger view of your upcoming turn.  The lower left box gives you a number of instrument type options.

Every once and while I discover a new option on my unit.

I really think I am going to like it. I told the wife tonight I bet I save $500.00 in gas this year because of it. You guys might think that is crazy but I do a lot of driving. There are weeks I fill my 34 gallon tank twice.  :o Dale

I just picked up the Nuvi 850 and have been playing around with it here locally learning to use it prior to our trip out west for vacation. So far it gets me where I'm going fine.

I see I can buy a SD card for my Nuvi 205. Why would I? What does it do? Thanks Dale

Your 205 will accept a MICRO SD card, do not confuse with a standard SD card.

I own Map Source U.S. TOPO 2008 and load a mapset from it, along with many waypoints I had created on my handheld Garmin gps.  I did not include the waypoints I created out on the lake fishing.  The waypoints become resident in the units memory.  The topo maps did not, as soon as I removed the card the topo maps disappeared with it.

If I was going to fly to Italy, England or France rent a car and take my automotive gps with me, it would be worth the money to buy City Navigator® Europe NT – Italy on a Micro SD card and insert it in the card slot.

So that micro SD card just stores extra maps then, huh? Dale

You can take jpg pictures of slice bread and load them on to your MICRO SD card and then view the slice bread on your gps. According to store music files on the card.

I got a TomTom. Without it I would still try to get out of Montreal a month ago.

I have had mine for almost a month now. I can't believe I went this long with out ever buying one. I don't know if any of you have been to Pittsburgh but it has to be one of the hardest cities in the US to get around. I have used this GPS to find jobs around Pittsburgh and it takes me right to the customers door. It has not failed me yet. :o ;D This is a great basic model. I may buy one of the better model Nuvi's some day and give this one to my wife. I think I would like one with the wider screen. Dale
