best ammo?
« on: September 15, 2003, 02:58:06 PM »
I have followed the bore break in procedure for a encore in .223.  I have been shooting purchased reloads, UMC FMJ 55 grain loads, and Hornady 55grain varmint round.  I can't seem to get the groups any tighter at 100 yards on the bench with a 2-7X Nikon prostaff scope than a 1.5" to 2" group.  Has anyone had any luck with any other ammo, I am looking for a round to use for coyote hunting, so I would like to use lead nose or hollow point ammo.

Thanks

Thanks, I will definetly try those, as a matter of fact, I was going to walmart this afternoon and can pick them up.  The hornady's were $15 per 20, and they grouped no better than anything else, I would rather try something a little cheaper.

I have tried the blackhills ammo and it was pretty good , about $13 for a box of 50 , As the others have said the winchester in the white box shoots pretty well also but none of shoots as well as my handloads taylored to the rifle or pistol in .223.

Thanks for the tip, I bought some of the winchester ammo for $11.89 at wally world, and after minor tweaking, I was able to get one hole on a string of three shots off the bench at 100 yards.  Now this is the kind of accuracy I am looking for.
