hello , another new one here
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:24:30 AM »
Hello , i am an avid outdoorsman like many here , currently practicing some modest taxidermy also , and have been thinking of trapping for some time. For my first question how is it possible to trap only the target animals ? In other words i have alot of yotes and fox in an area but there is also a ton deer . I sure would hate to trap a deer by mistake . Thanks for any input

 Welcome Boneman.
Most every state has a ton of deer now days, but with the way a deers foot is shaped, and the size of traps now used-- deer catches in foothold traps is a rare thing. Never even heard of someone catching one in a foothold trap.
If that is the only thing keeping you from trapping--don't let it stop you.You have about the same chance of catching a blonde beach bunny--as you do a deer.

Welcome aboard bones
Like the others I've had deer dance all over and set off both fox and coyote traps and never caught one. I fact some times to much fox and coyote urine seems to make deer mess with trap sets. Wouldn't think that based on the nurseries selling urine as a deer repellent, that just makes me laugh.
