Missed a big one today!!!
« on: September 15, 2003, 05:01:57 PM »
First light this morning I saw a large fish nearby its dorsal fins came out of the water so I casted out my Rapala jointed shad rap and before I could close my bail the line was tugging by the time I realized what was happening she was gone.  The guy who was next to me got a hit on liveminnows right after with his pole bent in half the fight lasted a few minutes and YES she was gone again!!!!!! His pole was too light to set the hook properly on this big bass.  Now my question is what bait should I start off with tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn??   Super flukes weightless?? or Crankbaits?? or another bait??  HELP??  Ever draw a blank on what to use??  I only have a little time before others show up I want to land it quick take a pic and put her back sneaky hugh??  BigBill

If this is the fish I have been seeing she is 10lbs for sure.  I had her on about 4 weeks ago and lost her too.  So I had a hook in her and she never bit again till now.  In the past I have caught the same bass twice in two straight days of fishing on two different baits she still had the same wounds from the first bait.

Well I hammered it for an hour today starting off with noisy topwater and crankbaits(rattle) and nothing then I tried senko type baits and nothing again.  Then i went to one of my new favorite baits a Rapala jointed shad rap.  I tried a few colors at first then ended up with firecraw.  I was playing(practicing) with it watching it twitch and behind it was a 6lb or bigger largemouth just looking at it she never went close to hit it. Then she swam away!!   These new rapala's are awesome there a "fish very slow kind of bait"  they can't go fast but their awesome just twitching, slow reeling or deadsticking/jigging it is my most favorite.  Or even jig it with a pause.                                                  BigBill

I even used sassy shads and super flukes today too.  The sassy shad is awesome too what action.
