Prarie Dogs???
« on: May 14, 2009, 07:34:45 AM »
I am looking at a place in Texas, New Mexico, or Oklahoma to hunt Prarie Dog.  I have never hunted the little monsters but I have killed plenty of Ground hog and other varmints.  Can someone help point me in the right direction?  I heard that the horse farms are a good place to get linked up with.  What is your take on that?  Thanks Dan

This summer I am going to shoot Prarrie dogs in an area I have not been to before. My game plan is to stop at a farm tractor dealership or feed mill and ask for names of farmers that may let me shoot.
This has worked for me in the past.

Check out the Oklahoma chapter in this forum, there's folks asking and offering right now.  Good hunting.

You know of some 'horse farms' ? We call them ranches west of the Mississippi. Great idea but typically we can do best contacting local county weed control people. They generally know exactly who has issues wtih them and who does not.

Thanks for the info.  I think that I will be going little later this summer or next spring/summer.

Is there anybody wanting to get a group hunt going?

Thanks

Some small town chambers of commerce have info available. Pick an area and use the phone a bit.

The other great angle is the USAD/ADAC's. U.S. Dept Ag/ Animal Damage control Agents. AKA the "government hunter/trapper." To them you is free help. If you stop in the city office you may find some bunny loving tree hugging skirt who will hate you. Find the folks with dirty fingers and open arms. Luck.

I just walked in the door from 2 and a half days of shooting in Colorado. We had some very good locations to shoot thanks to a local farmer we started chatting with at a gas station.
The day before the shooting began we toured the Coors brewery.
Needless to say it was a great time
Thanks to two guys with us in their early 20's we drove all night home. Oh to be young again.
