sako value
« on: May 14, 2009, 09:54:15 AM »
have a "AV"    (270) #577456,   is it a (1983)   finnbear?   the condition is good condition with a stock replaced with a poor piece of (tigereye) maple, but the choke(grip) has 2 hairline cracks on top-  the bolt has no bluing , might have been worked , safety is gold color?, barrel end is scratched up at end, and mounts look like a weaver type

what would be value and worth trying to makeit a  project gun replacing stock, etc

Having the stock replaced like that removes any collector value and makes it a shooter only. Having the stock cracked as you mention to me removes a LOT of the shooter value of them as it means that sooner or later someone is likely to have to replace that stock and on older guns like that replacements aren't always easy to come by. I'd take that into consideration.

I'm not a Sako owner and never have been but admit the older ones appeal to me a LOT more than the newer ones which don't appeal much at all. Depending on how bad the stock is I'd rate it at $350-$450 max but then as I say I'm not much of a fan of Sako rifles.
