7.5mm bullets for a K31
« on: May 14, 2009, 02:36:42 PM »
I just bought a K31 and want to start reloading for it.

Do they even make 7.5 jacketed bullets?  I've been looking but can't find them anywhere.  They must exist because both Wolf and Privi sell 7.5x55 ammo.  I'll use .308 if I can't find any, but would prefer the right size.  Any help would be appreciated.

Have reloaded extensively for the 7.5 Swiss.  Have found that just about any .308 bullet works just fine.  Mine (have had 4) all liked the 125 gr. Sierras, the 150 and 165 gr. Hornady SSTs.  All these shoot around 1/2" @ 100 when loaded into reformed 284 Win. brass and IMR 4064.  Because of cost, I also use the 150 gr. Remington SP.  It shoots around 1"@100 with same powder and cases.
This is the day the Lord has made.  I choose to rejoice and be glad in it.

Thanks guys.  How much of 4064 do you stuff into it?  I have a supply of 150's and 168's and probably a few 125's on hand.

Randy, that's also interesting that you make brass from 284.  What's your process?

There's also a bunch of different molds if you like to cast your own.

Pretty simple. Get the correct 7.5 Swiss dies (i.e. K31 not 1901). Get the correct shell holder for .284. Lube the case and neck. Resize. You're done. The base of the .284 is a bit different from the 7.5 Swiss but the extractor and bolt still work. BTW, since no one came out and said it, .308 is the right size.

I get accurate results with 45 grains of IMR 4064 and 150 grain pellets.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.
