Smokey powder
« on: May 15, 2009, 05:48:32 PM »
I just loaded up a test batch of .45 ACP with 230gr cast bullets and Win 231 powder.  Overall, the load performs pretty well.  I'ts accurate, and functions flawlessly in my 1911, but it produces a lot of smoke.  Is there something I can do to reduce the smoke?  Is it just the powder or does it have something to do with the cast bullets?

The smoke probably comes mostly from the bullet lube on the cast bullets.  Some lubes may smoke less than others.  I use a hard wax lube from Magma Engineering, and it doesn't seem to smoke much, but maybe I'm just used to it.
