Marlin 336 rc sight questions
« on: May 16, 2009, 07:47:39 AM »
I want to replace the sights on my 336 30/30 and can't decide which ones will work best for me.The front is  dovetailed with no ramp and the rear is the standard buckhorn without the adjustment ramp.

I have a Lyman front globe sight I am thinking of using and getting a rear peep from Lyman or Williams,or maybe a set of firesights from Wiliams.

Does moving the sight to the rear help older eyes any?

Does anyone have an opinion on this idea of mine,or a better one?

You guys are always full of good advice.

Thanks
Alan

The receiver sight will give you a longer sight radius. The buckhorn sight is marginal at best.I have a Lyman receiver sight on my 32 special and it runs circles around the old buckorn setup. I did have to go with a higher Lyman front site tho.If you are going to use for hunting, I would stay away from the globe front. Restrictsa the field of view to much. If just paper punching, go for it

Thanks for the input.
I already have the globe and would like to try it since 99 % of my shooting is paper.
You said you had to use a higher front sight,do you remember the height you used?
My globe is a 17 AUG(I think) it is one of the higher ones@.584.Should this work with a receiver sight?
Which height did you use?

Being you have already replaced the front site with the globe, mount the receiver sight and try it. I bet you will be pretty close,if not I will look up what size mione is  mike

I have not done anything yet.Still trying to decide which configuration to use.

I think I will go with a rear peep and keep the front sight standard for now to see if they line up.

I have a scope on it now,but lever actions just seem to like open sights too much.Just seems right somehow.

Thought it was kind of neat that my Marlin was built the same year I was born.Did not know that untill last week.

If your putting a peep site then most likely you will need a medium height front site also. This sytem works great but not in poor lite , where a scope would be the advantage there .

While bear hunting at last light I could not see the sites on my 336.
