« on: May 16, 2009, 08:37:03 AM »
i've got a m94 in 32 special(1942) i  noticed the last couple times to the range it just doesn't lock up as tight as it once did...when you close the action with or without a cartridge the slightest bump and the lever wants to fall.....do any of you guys have any ideas what might be wrong?

Sounds like wear but, I wouldn't worry as long as you grip the lever, it ain't gonna hurt anything. I'll bet the action is slick Huh?

That's what I figured. Dad bought mine new when I was eight. That was in 1958. Mine has slicked itself up over the years also.

I can hit a tennis ball every round(the ball hanging on a target, not on the ground) at 100 yds with factory Winchester power points, that's from the bench with a Lyman tang sight and a millet post front sight with a white stripe...my gun is so old it isn't drilled and tapped for a reciever mounted peep sight(which I actually prefer over the tang sight)....do you know if you can drill and tap this gun for a williams or lyman reciever sight by just opening the action(dropping the breech block) or is further disassembly required. I'm thinking about shooting cast in this gun...170 gr bullet at around 1800fps or so,to take it easy on the old gun and the old man behind the trigger but good enough to get the meat should the opportunity arise....not sure if i need a gas check bullet or not,was gonna try h4895 to get there...do you shoot cast bullets in your 32 spec?

You can drill and tap it without dropping the bolt out, BUT! You have the clear and present danger of getting metal shavings in the action. It would be better to do that, and then drill and tap it. I have had the Lyman on mine for years and years, and the white front stripped sight too. I also have the same sight set up on my Model 92 clone in 357mag. Love my Winchester levers.
