Today is Range Day...
« on: May 17, 2009, 04:47:47 AM »
...this afternoon from 1:30 until ???.  We're going to burn some powder and send some lead down range.

My two boys, my Physician and his family of four, the County Agricultural Agent, and an Engineer friend and his two boys.  Each of us is going to "exercise" their personal arsenals, offer the others in turn to fire each of the varied guns for a wider experience, and make an afternoon of fun for family and friends.

Too cold and windy to go yesterday, but today was beautiful. The youngest son came up with a new game. We hang a bowlin' pin from a six foot shepherds hook, about 6'' from the ground. You  have 20 seconds to empty the gun shooting at it. Time starts with your first shot. Depending on the gun you can have from 5 to 10 shots. The one with the most hits at the end of the day wins. With the small calibers it's easy to be consistent, but with the big bore's and the pin flyin' all directions it gets hard to hit. Shooting the the cord and making the pin hit the ground is a minus 1. Today we shot @ 30 yards and shot revolvers and pistol caliber levers. All open sights. Came home with a lot of empty brass and in third place.

Too crowded at the range here. I wonder where they find ammo or are they hoarders?
