45 ACP bullets in 50 ML

I have a large quantity of JHP .451 bullets with no real use for them.  I usually shoot conicals in my inline, but began eyeing these.  They are only 200 gr. bullets. 

Anyone tried this light a bullet in a sabot?

I believe Harvester sells a stand alone sabot for you to try.  I have not had much luck getting good acuracy with the 200 gr. 40 cal. in the 50 cal guns (50 cal Omega), but every gun is diff. I think the shorter bearing surface of the lighter bullet is the factor.

I have shot .451's from my 50 cals a lot.  they will shoot fine.  I use a either a Harvester Short Black or a MMP HPH-24 sabot.

Those short .451/200's might shoot accurately from 1/48 twist sidehammer, but I have not got them to shoot accurately and consistently from a 1/28 inline...

For shooting 75 yards and under they could be really functional.

Like 'Fletch' I have shot a ton of 10mil (40 cal) 200 grain bulets from my different inlines and they shoot very well.  The only problem I have had with them is @ 200 yards from my White they spread out, but the bore on the White is a .504 and the sabot is a bit loose.

MMP short sabots should do the trick just dont drive them too fast! A flying ashtray like a typical 200 gr .45 will blow up if pushed past 1400 fps or so.They were designed for maybe 1000fps. Lately I've had superb results with Winchester 230gr jhp's. They load them in .45 ACP and .45 GAP. A cave of a hollow point but phenonomal expansion and core holding ability.I shoot them at 1500 fps from my T/C Black Diamond XR.50 with 60gr of 3f Swiss or 50gr of 3f T7 and with the Swiss its MOA all day. About 1 3/4 inch with T7. This is for 3 at 100 yards. I use Harvester crush ribs and MMP shorts. Better accuracy with the Harvesters. I wrecked a doe with one last year.A 55 yard front quartering shot, a 30 yard dash and it was chest soup.The bullet was a pass through.Didnt expect that...

I picked up some "generic" sabots and played around with these bullets.  I started with 60gr. Blackhorn, and got acceptable accuracy at 50 yds.  All over the place at 100.  Moved the charge up to 80 gr. and it was like launching frisbees.  Backed down to 50gr. and got good groups at 50, but still not good at all at 100.  I think I will just leave these in the box until I find some other use for them.  I've always been a conical man, never liked sabots, and these are certainly not going to change my mind.  These were some bullets my Dad tried to shoot in an unmodified 1911 I think.  My brother said he could not get them to chamber well.  My plan was just to use them for plinking.
