People who think that know everything are especially annoying to those of us that do!!  ;D

Except Ghandi....don't know crap about him.  He was an Indian (dot, not feather) right?   :o

yep a man.. an facinating as depicted..im in the same boat as to knowing about him.. i didn t even know the hindus believed in god.. but he was not a religious fanatic as he made hindues mad by eating with muslims..much the same as chist did when he ate with the publicans..
my understanding, if imy memory is right... publicans were jewish tax collectors appointed to collect tax for the romans..could be wrong .. but i know the general public despised them..slim

I heard the statement made he held his people back by rejecting technological advances for his country men.   I beleive he did not like the western world's technology.  His rejection came when the advances would have made his country a highly productive society.  Instead of moving forward, they held to a high labor society.

Mahatma Ghandi walked barefoot everywhere, to the point that his feet became quite thick and hard. He also was quite a spiritual person. Even when he was not on a hunger strike, he did not eat much and became quite thin and frail. Furthermore, due to his diet, he wound up with very bad breath. Therefore, he came to be known as:

I have not seen the movie, but Ghandi is a figure I studied in depth.  Some of his less famous teachings have stuck with me since learning them.  Here are a few.

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall — think of it, always."

"I want freedom for the full expression of my personality."

"Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will."

"It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err."

I quoted these, but they may not be exact quotes.  It is just from memory.

I think that's one of the most ignorant statements I've ever seen on this forum.

Ghandi was a remarkable man, to be sure.  The thought of expelling the British through force of arms horrified him, but Ghandi came to a realization that proved to be correct.  It was something to the effect of:  "There are 300 million Indians and only 30,000 British troops in India.  They cannot control us if we do not cooperate."  And you know what, they couldn't!

This is my favorite quote of his:
"Seven social sins: politics without principles, wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, science without humanity, and worship without sacrifice."
