check out their site they do alot of investment casting . They made Big Bertha golf club heads at one time

I do think ruger no long makes there newer guns as well as they used to.

But then they come out with a new type all the time. So you can expect some problems.

I agree and they never really get the problems ironed out of the ones they've already made. Kind of like internet software programing.

I hear ya; with all of their recent models being recalled, I'm reluctant to throw down money for a 556; I'll wait until they've been out for a while, then borrow one or trade into a cheap used one.

I had a new GP-100 that would cylinder bind with the forcing cone of the barrel to the front of the cylinder face after around 35 rounds, you could see when holding it up to the light that there was practically no air gap, the tolerances were so tight. I used a fine file to polish the forcing cone a little, and just apply some Hoppes #9 on the cylinder face with some cleaning effort when it would stick. After around 500 rounds the gun seemed to adjust itself and there is no longer a need to clean it every 35 rounds. I can fire 2 boxes of ammo without a hickup. A close gap between the cylinder and the barrel is desirable, so I decided not to send it to the factory for adjustment. The gun shoots really well.

I'm finished w/ Marlin too. They didn't fix my gun, stole my ammo cost me freight and caused a delay in getting it to a local smith to get fixed. I think they would be just as happy making manure forks.

I have a coupla Vaqueros that get kinda tight when they're dirty, but I like it that way. These are sidearms, they're not meant to be used to fight entire wars with. The tight cylinder gap promotes accuracy. If I wanted something looser than my (soon to be) ex wife, I'd buy a colt or a clone.

Travis, you came short of telling us what kind of accuracy you're getting with your Vaqueros and just how many junk Colt SAAs(and the problems you've had with them) you've had? Inquisitive minds want to know? Or are you just another Bill Ruger Colt bashing fan? Enlighten me, please.

Well, before the spinal fusion, they were shooting tiny little clover leafs for me every time. Now, not so much.I can't shoot worth a damn now.
As for Colts, the new ones are turds and you damn well know it. SOME of the clones are alright, and the occasional one is good. Most that are exceptionally accurate and smooth have spent a lot of time with a gunsmith. I always get a kick out of the 'tards on sassnet.com that might shoot one weekend a year but are absolutely convinced that they can buy accuracy; they'll buy a brand new gun and send it directly to the smith for a trigger job and all new springs like it's gonna make a difference to someone that can't shoot.

Anyways, it's obvious I gored your sacred cow, nut I'm not gonna apologise. Colts and Harleys are the same. They're nice when they run, but they don't necessarily do that right away.

I busted the front sight off of my vaquero
I shipped it to ruger, told them it was my fault, I am responsible, please let me pay.

first package I got back from them was my little softcase i had shipped it in

next one was my vaquero, fixed, and they tuned it up and replaced a "pawl?" IIRC

no charge, no bill, never even heard from em

I own a ruger carbine, 10/22, 77MkII, Sp101 and probably something else I've forgotten

so I like Ruger

You never mentioned the distance. MY Vaqueros and Blackhawk do just fine on the plate rack at the indoor range here. We set it up at 25 yards and the plates are, IIRC, 4". They might be 5", but I'm pretty sure they're 4". BTW, I've only worked over the triggers myself and free spun the pawls. These aren't the super custom guns some of the SASS guys use that have twice their value in gunsmithing put into them.

I guess I am bored here but.... Got a relative that bought someone elses headache, a badly abused and grossly overloaded balckhawk in 357, cylinder loose, barrel gap huge. Ruger took it in set the barrel back to fix the gap, fixed the lock up reblued and re anodized the back strap for free. The only cost was shipping, 6 week turn around. crap they got my vote I would have sent it back and said no warranty for abuse on the part of the original owner and stupidity on your part for buying a broken gun. Sometimes back logs happen the important thing is coming thru in the end. I to would put my redhawk 44 against any off the shelf 44, and I am not brand specific but that blood sucker shoots. On the same hand I had 45 lc that wasn't so hot. But I would buy another ruger if I wanted one.

Some paint was missing from one of the grip medallions (yea, I know I'm picky).

I used Ruger's online web form to mention the problem. In one week, a new set of grips arrived; free of charge, no questions asked.

I'm impressed.....again.

I had a similar experience. 2 months ago I bought a New Model Vaquero. One of the grips had some chips in it (didn't notice it until I got the gun home). I gave Ruger a call, she took my address, and I had a new set of grips in 4 days......no questions asked. I would call that pretty good service.

I have never had a moments problem with any of my rugers. only bought one new out of a dozen or so.trigers are not smiths but they are dependable. Jim

Just for the record, problems with the semi autos can not affect work on the revolvers as they are done at two seperate plants. Semi's are done here in Arizona, revolvers are back east.
