My first mortar/howitzer
« on: May 20, 2009, 02:51:04 PM »
Don't know how to post pictures but, I had to tell ya'll about my first build.  I designed the barrel myself and since my son is a machinist I had to do it.  He used 3.5" cold roll 10 inches long, with a 3/4 by 1 1/4 powder chamber and a golf ball size bore length of 6 inches.  Took it out last Sat. and my first launch with barrel set at 45 degrees and using 50 grs. of 2F went 105 yds.  60 grs. went 119 yds. and 70 to 80 grs. couldn't find the golf ball.  Windage seems good, just enough that a golf ball will slid to the bottom on its on.  More fun than I've had in a while.  These things are addicting.

Cool.  Hope we can see pix before long.  One way to do it is to get a free photobucket account.  Then you upload your .jpg photos to it, and copy the line below the posted image that says "IMG..."  Then you paste that in your posting and it shows up as a picture.

STexhunter -

Welcome to the club of addicts!

Golf ball shooting has got to be much more fun and much less expensive than hitting them with clubs!

Try something on the pix and if you need help ask.

Sounds like a fine shooting rig . If you want , send me the picture and I will host it for you on my ISP site.
Just send it as an attached file to my email .   etaft@northerntel.net    put "golf ball" in subject line so I do not delete it with the junk mail.
Pictures for STexhunter  Enjoy !
Nice project .....

I hate photobucket... the powers-that-be in my unit block photobucket but not photos posted to these forums.  Half the time I have to read the descriptions here and then look at the pictures at home.

More fun than I've had in a while.  These things are addicting.

Evidence proves there's a cannon section somewhere in the male brain. :) I can't remember ever bringing a cannon to a range where the gun didn't act as a magnet, drawing other guys to it.

If only I could make a cannon that looked like a Gucci bag or large diamond ring.

 Hmmm...

I posted the pictures under my first post . To find where they are just right click on the picture , look @ properties and thats the place were they are stored.

Easy to do after pulling oput all my hair .....  ::)  actually I resized them and added a 1 to each picture to keep them separate from the full sized monsters you sent .  ;D Microsoft has a free down load to manipulate picture sizing . I think it is called power toys? Works well for me .

Nice cannon /mortar  project.

That's a good looking barrel. Should be lots of fun shooting that and should give you many years of fun.  Congrats.
