Prayer in School
« on: May 21, 2009, 02:59:18 PM »
I have complained a lot recently about the school in which my son attends.  I attended school with him today to participate in fun day.  I was utterly shocked and amazed at his schools refusal to keep prayer out of school.  They began their morning with listening to our National Anthem.  17 sweet voices singing out words they barely understand was one of the sweetest sound I've heard in awhile.  Then they stood with hands over their hearts and said the Pledge to the flag with the words Under God which most schools have omitted.  Then instead of saying let's take a moment of silence like all other schooling or sporting events I have attended the child announcer over the loudspeaker said now lets bow our heads and pray.

I asked Evan's teacher if the kid just didn't know any better and she told me no that that was what he was supposed to say.  She went on to explain to me that none of the parents have complained and Weaver will close its doors before it stops kids from praying.  With out any complaints there is no reason for anyone to know any different.  Good for them!

At least there is one school left in America that allows prayer. I think a little more prayer in the schools might make a difference in how our kids turn out down the road. It definately wouldn't hurt.

Slim,
I think you misunderstood my post.  I stated that I have had issues with the school recently, but I am HAPPY that the school allows my son to pray and actually calls it prayer.  I applaud the school for standing up for their right to allow their kids to pray.  I think it is a wonderful thing.

That's pretty cool! It's good to know.

When I was a kid in the 1960s we had a "moment of silent meditation" after the Pledge. Nice to see somebody is still doing it.
