Want a 44 Special Blackhawk
« on: May 22, 2009, 04:48:42 AM »
I tried to reserve one through my dealer, and believe it or not he passed away.  Seriously, he was a friend also and it totally came as a shock.

Well, I still want one of this special runs of Blackhawks although I still am debating the barrel length.  My local shot will not order form Lipseys.  Anyone tell me a good place to get one before they are gone?  I can buy it and get it deleivered to my local shop, but they will not order it direct.
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

I'd find a different dealer.  If he has some issue with buying from a particular distributor, especially if the model wanted is exclusive to that distributor, he wouldn't have me as a customer.
Sometimes traveling a bit further is worth it.  You might find a good HELPFUL dealer.  Buying other than direct and you're paying the shipping fees AND someone else's markup.

If he won't buy from them it's probably because they won't sell to him due to him not handling his account with them properly in the past. I'd be suspicious of that dealer.

I would just wait and I bet some show up.  I have one of each barrel length and I didn't order either one.  I found the short barreled one at a gun show in March for $499.  I thought that was a bit high, but bought it as it was the first one I had seen. I just found the 5.5" one sitting in the display case at a local dealer just the other day for $455.  He said he had it a couple of weeks.  I think the initial demand is starting to slow down.  I know of two more 5.5" barreled ones at local shops.  One is asking $525, and the other has his on gunbroker right know for $599 (with no bids).  I bet if you are patient, you'll find one for less than $500.  They are nice guns.  The fit and finish seems better than other Rugers I have purchased in recent years.

I recently bought the 44 mag anniversary model, found one NIB on gunbroker, way less than $500. The 44 special is the same frame, you need to get one, they're awesome. I'm sure you'd find one online if you looked, just get it transferred to a local FFL>

Initial demand was huge, party from those wanting the chambering/platform combination and party from the collectors going after specific numbers.  There's supposedly to be more coming even after the initial 1000 if the demand is there.

Go to http://www.lipseys.com and ask them for other dealers in your area. If your local dealer won't order I'd never give him anymore business!we had a discount dealer for 18 years in his last 4 months the feds and ca doj  checked his records several times trying to find errors but there wern't any, so he turned his ffl in,all of his paperwork and moved out of state.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided I had better order one, found a Lipsey's approved dealer and went in to ask about ordering, while I was waiting I spotted one in the gun case. It was a 5.5" barrel for $435.00 Needless to say I took her home. I wanted the 4 5/8" barrel, but I'm really starting to like the 5.5"

Like kiddekop said find the approved dealers in your area, there may be one waiting for you in there case!

Go to lipseys website and click on dealer locator.  It will show everyone who deals with them in your area.  I had trouble deciding on a barrel length as well.  I put the order in for the 4 and 5/8ths thinking it will pack just a bit easier, but told him if he gets a 5 1/2 in to call me the extra in sight radius will help with accuracy a bit too.
