marlin 336
« on: May 22, 2009, 06:16:57 AM »
OK I just purchased a marlin 336 in 35 rem. It was built in around 1953.  Shes a beaut!
First question is was the receiver drilled and tapped for a scope mount during this time frame?

I am having some difficultly locating ammo for it? any suggestions, I have a new gander mountain about 1 hr from me do they carry it? local shops dont stock it this time of year....

Look at the top of the reciever. If there are plugged screw holes it is drilled and tapped. If not, you will have to hire a gunsmith.

No I am sorry that I wasnt clean enough on my question. It has a scope mount aready on it. I was just courious if the factory did drill and tapping in the 50's or if someone had a gunsmith do it....

Buy some reloading dies and make your own ammo. I do not believe they were drilled and tapped in '53, probably an aftermarket jobbie. Congrats on getting an awesome rifle in an awesome caliber.

thanks! picked it up for 310.00. wood is near perfect. finish is very good. Buttplate has small chip. has a half magizine. It just got another one in that was made in earily 90's and its also in 35 rem. hoping to pick it up as well, but one guy has first shot at it, Well see if he picks it up or if I get it.
Hoping to get one in 45 LC as I shoot quite a bit of that round.

thanks for the replys guys!
