Found a .223 load for my Tikka Lite.
« on: May 22, 2009, 05:56:09 PM »
I recently started reloading....and after much frustration...I found a load that I am happy with for my Lite .223. Below is my target shot at 100yrds. from the prone. Each group is a five shot group. All would have been under 1/2" groups except I pulled the first shot in the last group...overall I am very happy with the load.

Take care,Stan

Hi Stan,

Nice groups. 5 shots each too. Please tell us about the load.

oops...guess I left that out. Here it is:

Black Hills fired brass FL sized and trimmed
50gr Vmax bullets
CCI primers
24.8gns of RamShot TAC
COAL  2.250

This is pretty much a copy of factory Black Hills 50gr Vmax Red Box ammo.  Works great as you can see.

Take care,Stan

I'm real close to your load for my main dogtown fodder. I'm off to SD 8-11 June with about 1200+ rounds of ammo. This is 2 days shooting with 2 shooters. I loaded mostly 50 grn V-maxes, some Blitz Kings, & a few SPSX, & 'dogtown' types. I did my own limited  cleanliness testing, which was looking through the bore after a similar number of shots. I compared the old standby H335 & TAC & found the TAC much cleaner. Last summer in SD I noticed the AR action getting fairly dirty after a good number of H335 rounds were fired. A quick field cleaning got the son back in action.
