replacement stocks for marlin 336
« on: May 24, 2009, 03:05:18 AM »
i picked up a 1949 era, model 336 in 30-30 that has a cracked stock at the pistol grip.  what i 'think' i am looking for are opinions on replacement stocks, plastic or wood.  can anyone point me in the right direction for finding a replacement ?
the for end is in great shape, but the stock has a split and was 'fixed" some time back with brass chicago bolts. although it feels solid i dont want to get out into the woods hunting and have it come apart or get loose and foul a hunt. this rifle is in great shape, hardly never used and i picked it up from the original owner for under $100.
so, where can i get a well made stock set ?

Macon Gunstocks seems to produce some nice wood for the 336 in all price ranges  - and many other rifles too:

Marlin will restock it for a pretty reasonable price.  I'd get them to do uncheckerd walnut.

I believe GBO Sponsor Gunstocks, Inc. also supplies stocks for the Marlin.

It seems like a real shame to put a tupperware stock on a vintage rifle.  For what you paid, it would be well worth the cost to return it to Marlin for a new American walnut stock.

These guys can tell you what it would cost.

Why not talk directly with the honcho, over at   http://www.treebonecarving.com/id9.html  ?

Besides obviously supplying very nice Marlin wood, they just MIGHT have an older issue buttstock or two hanging around that you might be interested in.

tree bone carving is just a bit outta my price range for a 90% inlet stocks.
the macon stocks seem to fit my budget a bit closer, so i can affort to get both pieces.
so far thats what im leaning towards.
