REM 700 lover hates CZs
« on: May 26, 2009, 12:47:47 PM »
My bud with his 1200 lb varmint 700 and 1 billion dollar Leupold scope in .223 hates my CZ sportster. Because they shoot so good. 527 .221FB, Rem 50gr Accutip. Ya I know the other shots are way off. Screwed up.

I wouldn't brag on those groups and besides you let the PD get away. Maybe you need a Remington.

GB, those are 200 yard groups.  Look better than what I see most do at the range at 100 (well, except for the pulled shot in each group).   ;)
Aim small, miss small!!!

Remingtons have been the standard for accuracy rifles for years.  NOBODY I know has had more experience with them than GB, and they are truly fine rifles.

That said, I sure like those new Varmint Savages for their raw accuracy and the fact that barrel changes are a whole lot cheaper.

Out to 300 yards with my little Remington Model Seven Predator in .17 Fireball if I see a prairie dog head I can easily put all shots into that head alone. It is kinda wind sensitive due to the little 20 grain pill it shoots so when ya get beyond 300 the wind deflection can become a factor. With little to no wind to worry about shots beyond 400 are just about as sure as it gets on body shots.

My SPS Varmint .22-250 takes over where the little Fireball leaves off for the longer shots and is easily a 500 yard prairie dog killer. Both with factory ammo as I've not taken the time yet to work up my best hand loads for these two tho I do have a hand load for the .22-250 the first one I cobbled up by the way that pretty well matches the factory ammo performance. I've not loaded for the Fireball yet.

Two shots close and one wide like that is not a good group. Make excuses all ya want but ya shot two targets and did it twice. I've never yet owned a Remington Varmint rifle that wouldn't shoot five shot groups with the ammo it prefers into half inch groups on a consistent basis and getting down to the .2s and .3s is quite common for five shot groups.

All mine are prairie dog accurate beyond 400 yards with both factory and reloads.

I have no experience with CZ rifles so am not knocking them just saying that Remngton rifles are about as accurate as over the counter rifles of any brand day in and day out. Like any you might find one with a problem that needs to be fixed but if I had to bet my life on the accuracy of an over the counter rifle I'd take a Remington every time.

From someone who owns both a Remington full-bore varmint (22-250 700 SPS), and a CZ 527 in .221 FB and same Rem. factory ammo:
I agree 100% with GB. Took words right out of my "mouth" re. the Remington.
Absolutely love the CZ, a great shooter with trigger in either position. Am tempted to agree about it running with the big boys with far less weight, etc.; it handles like a rimfire. However, it does have its limits and wouldn't use it for one-shot kills on a regular basis on my Eastern bean-fed groundhogs much past 275 yards on a regular basis in the .221.
Don't know of any other brand of heavy-barreled .221 for a comparison to the CZ sporter to really prove our hunch. At this point, if I could keep only 2 of my varmint rifles, it'd be these two. If only one, (God forbid), the practical choice woud be the 22-250 Remington.

Most folks know that when not stated otherwise groups like GB referred to are normally fired at 100 yards.   And BTW, a 3-shot group doesn't tell you much.   Even though 5 is standard for most folks, even that's minimal.   Show me your 10-shot group next time.

500 yrds with a 22 caliber..i just set an watch if somebodies shooting like that.. i ll cut bait or something..  ;Dslim..

Actually, 500 yards is not that big of a deal for many 22 centerfires with a good driver.   Some very fine long range shooters on this board, so bragging rights here have to be earned.

Your inexperience shines through not just on your targets pard, but also in your words.   It'll come, just give it time.

Edit to add this BTW... I have 2 CZ's and a BRNO, but if you don't count the XP-100's only 2 Remingtons left now.   The Remingtons have always been reliable workhorses for over a half century for me, but I have to admit you get a lot of bang for the buck from a CZ.   Doesn't hurt that all 3 of mine have unusual very high grade factory wood on them either, including the 1949 BRNO.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Hey valves; that's good shootin you did at 200 yards.
What Graybeard did at 300 yards shows you what a good rifle can do with the right person behind it.   I had a cousin who was awesome with a cheap Montgromery Wards .22.   Proved himself a real champion on our Highschool small bore State competition.   Graybeard would probably have given him a run for his money.
Enjoy your rights to keep and bear arms.
