35 Remington Reloading ? for Marlin 336

A few months ago I sized some new Remington 35 Rem. brass, for my Marlin 336, and found the cases were very tight in the die. Today I resized that brass (once fired) in the same dies (RCBS) and jammed a case that was just polished. The first 15 cases were also very tight. I then tried a different resizing die and found it also very tight. Tight is compared to all other calibers I reload for.

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions are appreciated. Is this typical of 35 Remington? Would using a lube help? With other calibers I found just tumbling and polishing the brass is more than enough to allow easy re-sizing

I lube all rifle cases unless they are straight walled nothing like sticking a case in a die and pulling the rim off!

Yes using Lub is indeed the answer . Use it sparingly or dents will result. Then just a bit too inside the neck.

I load the 200 RCBS lead bullet so have the lyman M die to slight flare the case , then also use a Lee crimp die to lightly crimp the bullet in place .

Different guns like different powders . I load the 180 Speer FN with BLC2 others like the 200 gr with 3031 .

Just have to try things out to suit your own gun.
Don't be afraid to ask for idea's and use other's expertise.

Just guessing, but maybe your gun has a large chamber and you're having to work the brass more to get it resized?

I have the full length sizer die and recently got the Lee collet, neck sizing die. I use the collet die on most calibers and I really like it. Less brass wear and no need for lube. Certainly produces some good shooting ammo!

If you have rolled your cases on a pad then also lubed inside the neck, your cases should not be hard to size. Are your dies New/ Used, and is the centre punch scratched? Most of the time if the inside neck is not Lubed the the die will stick on the upstroke.
I reload in the same family ofcartridges you do, and find the 35 to resize to about the same force . The 35 chamber is a little generous so , the bottom of the case does get worked a bit more than the 06, but feel no more resistance .

Maybe tell us what dies , lub, and press your using , and how your applying the Lub?

Don't ever...and I mean EVER... size a bottleneck rifle case with a regular (not carbide) sizing die or you can get in big trouble and a lot of work to remedy a stuck case.  There a very few carbide dies on the market for rifle rounds except for the revolver type rounds and the .223.  You can get by without lubing the neck inside but you'll have to deal with streching the case unneccessarily.  This comes from and old voice of bitter experience!  Have fun with your reloading & shooting!

Amen to that!  I'm just surprised that you haven't stuck any cases yet.  I use a spray on lube from Midway or Hornaday myself.  You don't want to stretch those 35 cases--new ones can be hard to come by, and there's not many good once-fired ones in 35 laying around on the ground at most ranges these days.

Most lever guns have oversized chambers.  Mine does the same thing.

I would first start with taking the FL resizeing die apart and cleanning it with an old bore brush wrapped with steel wool. Chuck it up in a drill dip in Hoppies and polish out your die, Then clean degrease and lightly lub. Clean your brass lube and try again. If still excessive effort is needed you either have a VERY loose chamber or a VERY tight die or both combined . Rcbs will open a die if needed but I would just buy a better case lube. Red Rooster makes a lube to make wildcats. This stuff is unbelivable!! I had 308's that I broke off in two dies they were so tight . I was going to throw them away when I was told to try the lube. I almost knocked out my teeth on the press the ram handle went down so easy I fell forward. I started flying through the big box of 308's and there were 2 30/06 cases mixed in They went through and came out as 308's with a very long neck. This one jar of lube will last a lifetime because you use it spareingly. Good luck and let us know how you make out. J.Michael
