That was a great buy. This is a very accurate rifle. Around 1970 a got a Rem 788 in 22-250 for my cousin John so that he would have a woodchuck gun when he came up to VT on vacation. We would hunt woodchucks for a couple of weeks and when he went back to NY, I had the gun for the rest of the year.
This gun was the cause for a very sharp decline in the woodchuck & crow population in our area in the 70's & 80's. This began my love of this awesome caliber. This gun along with my own old Rem 700 BDL Varmint in 22-250 are now my heavy 22 cal guns. And by the way this not so pretty Rem 788 will hold it's own against the Heavy barreled Rem 700.
Cousin John passed away about 20 years ago and he had told his wife that when he passed that I was to get this Rem 788 along with the rest of his guns. "THANKS JOHN."
And Brig33, if you reload try Hornady 55gr. SX bullets over a charge of IMR 4320 in your Rem 788.
