New 45-.410 combo $229?

Brand new. Survivor stock, iron sights, no scope rail.   Good deal?

The factory Survivor 45/410 only comes with a front bead, no sights, not drilled and tapped for a scope mount, but can be, the blued version sells for about $200, $230 for the nickel, it's not really a combo, just one barrel, combos usually have two barrels, sometimes three.

Yeah, I know little scew in rifling peiece at the end of the barrel.  Is this price just normal range then. Is it worth getting? Do they shoot decent with that system?

45 Colt accuracy is mediocre at best even with a scope, I've seen 4"-6" groups at 100yds reported, but the ~2" jump to the rifling doesn't help matters much.  :-\ Not my cup O'tea, but for some it fills a niche, the .410 itself to me is as useless as teats on a boar, expensive ammo, a 20ga is a much better scattergun, but that's just my opinion. ;) Many, many posts on using longer brass in it on and SB2 frame, search for 450 Mongo.

Was looking at father's day options. Looks like a no go.

I had one.  I decided to trade it for another Handi because it wasn't great with the 45lc.  I had a red dot on mine.  It's a nice feeling, compact gun.  Neat, but when I was given the option of trading it for a 7.62x39, I took it.

Maybe get your dad a 44?  That was another factor involved in my trading off the 410/45.  I had picked up a 44 in the mean time.  My main desire for the Survivor was to shoot the 45lc.  The 44 magnum does all the 45lc will do, but you can get off the shelf 44 mags that will do what only handloaded 45lc will do.

By the way.  A rifle for Father's Day; you are indeed a good son.

I have had 3 of them that I bought from Walmart not sure what they get for them now but a yr ago they were $185. Reason for 3 was I kept trying to like them but it never worked out although it seems like a neat match no matter what it really is not a functionable 410 for bird shot good for snakes 45 shot ok but not that good slugs still shoot better out of smooth bore 410. So the 410 Tamer still is a better overall than the 45-410. If you get brass 410 cases you can make a much better slug load than 45colt and you don't need any special tools to do it. Just my opinion but the rifling actually limits it's preformance. Kurt

I have one that has never been shot.  I did get some 460 cases and thought that would get the bullet closer to the rifling. not thinking of loading it very warm just enough to keep cases from getting smoked up.  Yet another project been on the back burner for several years :-\.  Maybe the wife is right, don't need anymore guns. :o  Course, need has nothing to do with it. ;D  DP

I have one that I have not shot much 410 from but have shot 45 colt and it was not very accurate with those.  Then I made some brass shells by fire forming 303 British brass.  I neck size the cases with my 45 colt FL die.  Load a 250 gr .454" sized LRNF and about 10 gr of Unique and ended up with a good combination.  I also load bird shot in the same brass cases without tools except for using my 45-70 hand deprimer to deprime the cases.  My barrel came without sights so I soldered on a short ramp front and a williams open rear sight I had in my junk drawer and it works fine for sighting equipment.
