G2 carbine 17 FB recommendation

I am planning to get a 17 fireball carbine barrel. What would you think would be the proper length of barrel for the cartridge. It will be used some for predator calling and some for prairie dog shooting.

Bullberry recommended 23" when I was looking at a .17.  I finally decided on an Encore, 17 AH;  it's 23" and really handy.
