Lo-Set Peep On Any Model 92

Ranger--Any advantage to using the sight for the AE over one set up for side mount D&T??  Does it clear the bolt safety, I haven't vasectomized mine? I have to order one or the other so it makes no difference to me.  I have a 94AE with the Williams FP with an elevation target knob on it and I like their sight set up.  Thanks Nick

If your Model 92 is already D/T'd on the side, i.e. set up, it would make more sense to use the side mount peep in the existing holes, ILO D/T'ing two more holes in the top rails.

If your Model 92 will have to be D/T'd somewhere, depending on what peep you choose, IMO I don't think it'll make a whole lot of difference.

I had acquired the 94AE peep in a sights trade - so used it because I had it on hand - and posted the results so others could see it would work.

The side-mount peep should clear the issue bolt safety, if it's mounted in the proper position - just ahead of the thinner locking lug mortices.  There, the horizontal peep bar will cross the bolt ahead of the lug area, well forward of the safety ears with the bolt closed.

The top-mount AE peep is also mounted just ahead of the locking lug mortices, but it's design carries the horizontal peep bar behind it's base, over the rear half of the locking lugs - where it might be contacted by one of the issue bolt safety ears when the bolt is all the way forward - unless the underside of the bar is relieved to clear the safety ear, or the safety given the vasectomy.

I'm currently working on yet another low-mounted peep - just a Skinner Lo-Pro mounted in the center of the vasectomized bolt safety body..............................

I have what may sound like a dumb question: Are the two screws visible to the left of your top mounted reciever sight on the reciever the ones used for side mounting a reciever sight?

On my rifle those two screws appear to serve no function they look as though they are just fillers.

In the picture here they are the two screws visible on the side of the reciever-and I think I just answered my own dumb quetion because if a reciever sight was mounted there it looks like it would interfere with shell ejection.

My Lyman 66A peep sits as low as possible but I will be looking at a slightly taller front sight as I'm hitting a little higher then I'd like.

I like the Lyman.

The two screws visible in my pic are one screw for the left cartridge guide rail (inside), and the larger screw is only a cover to access the pin that secures the tip of the lever to the bolt.

AFAIK, none of the Model 92 clones are factory-prepped (D/T'd) for a peep.
If one was, there would be two small (6-48) plugged side-by-side holes in the upper left rear receiver wall, near the locking bolt mortice - both equi-distant from the top of the action rail.

The Rossi 92 pictured above has no such prep - why I elected to D/T the top of the receiver sidewalls for a top-mount peep.
